post about this issue one more time... It still hasn't been resolved (after 10 back-and-forth e-mails with HP technical support), and I really need your help! http://www.pcreview.co.uk/threads/scanning-problems-with-hp-all-in-one.3849196/ First off, I run Windows Vista Home Premium (32). I've used my HP Photosmart http://www.experthelp.com/question/1390955/will-not-scan-i-get-error-message-communication-error-make-sure C4280 printer for about 2 years, worked fine for the most part. Lately I started having problems, so I uninstalled and reinstalled the driver & software (got the latest versions from HP download site). Since reinstall, my scanner isn't working. Whether I press the "Scan" button on the unit, or I select "Scan picture" or "Scan error occurred document" from the HP Solution Center, an error pops up: "An error occurred communicating with the scanning device. Please ensure that the printing device is properly connected and try again". Also, I've uninstalled/reinstalled the drivers/software several times, cleaned temporary files and registry, still the problem persists. Having said that, the printing/copying works fine, so I know that the printer is properly connected. BTW, tried connecting the same printer to a communicating with the friend's PC running Windows XP and it scans with no problem, so the issue must have something to do with HP interacting (non-interacting) with Vista. Please help!!! civ2ru, Jul 9, 2009 #1 Advertisements Carol Guest Scanning with HP all in ones using Vista is a disaster. I've been trying to get them to write a patch but zero response. You can scan but only to picture format - .btmp, .jpeg, etc. That means you can't OCR anything which is a real problem for me. If you're willing to accept the picture format, just turn on the printer, go to Programs/Accessories and open Paint. Click on File then "From Scanner or Camera" then click Scan. If HP ever comes up with a patch, I'll post the information. "civ2ru" wrote: > Sorry to post about this issue one more time... Epson Tech Hi, Thank you for waiting. As the first step towards the resolution, I need you to try the following: 1. Turn off the printer and unplug it from the outlet. 2. Disconnect the printer from the computer and re-connect it via USB connection. 3. Restart your computer. 4. Re-plug the printer and turn it on. Check the results and let me know what is the outcome, please. Posted 1/7/2016 Customer When I followed your suggestions I got the same "Communications error...." message. But in the meantime, I discovered that if I open my systems preferences and choose "printer & scanners" I can select scan from that. It does scan with my wireless connection. I had not known about that. Before I always used the screen of the printer to select the options and it would work if the computer was hooked up to the printer with the USB cable. That is what is not working anymore. Not sure why. Posted 1/7/2016 Mario V. Epson Tech Hi Steve, Were you using Epson Scan software to scan? Also, could you please tell me what operating system do you use and what is the model of your printer? Posted 1/7/2016 Customer I have no idea if it is using Epson Scan Software....I am assuming it is. I opened my System Preferences and chose Printers & Scanners, and selected Scan, and it just worked. It didn't tell me what it was using. I am using OS X El Capitan, Version 10.11.2. I did update the system software today. My printer/scanner is the Epson Workforce 545. Posted 1/7/2016 Mario V. Epson Tech Thank you, Steve.
