Until now, I've been using Notepad++ to code in and I've done Git operations directly on the server. Now I've installed Eclipse (I have never used it before) and have imported the Git repo (on the mounted network drive) and created a project. I can now add files to Git with Eclipse, but when I try to commit I get the following error: Error occurred computing diffs java.lang.NullPointerException I've tried both stable and nightly versions of EGit, but both produce the same error. When I commited directly on the server, it worked. Whats the problem and how can I solve it? If I copy the git repository to local storage, it works perfectly. Why? Can you produce a start trace and a diff-stat between HEAD and what you are about to commit, an post it on bugs.eclipse.org. -- robin Report message to a moderator Re: Error when commiting [message #650216 is a reply to message #650059] Sun, 23 January 2011 09:10 Matic Messages: 5Registered: January 2011 Junior Member I don't know how to create a start trace, but I've found out that it doesn't matter what I commit. In fact, if I create a new empty project on the network drive and start sharing it with Git (repo is the same folder as the project), it w

So was trying to write the commit and getting bounced. I've been using Eclipse for a few months, but had been just running git from the CLI. I decided that error occurred computing was inefficient and that I wanted to use eGit, so I started following this tutorial (http://www.slideshare.net/loianeg/using-the-egit-eclipse-plugin-with-git-hub-2578587?from=embed). I'm trying to add an existing project, so I did Team-->Share Project-->Git and selected the .git corresponding to my project. Eclipse seems to have picked it up, okay, but when I try to commit, I get a popup saying "Committing changes has encountered a problem' -- an internal error occured. When I click details, it say "An internal error occurred Exception caught during execution of commit command" ...I don't even know where to start on this one. I googled the error and didn't get anything useful. Anyone know how to fix this, or at least how to start debugging? eclipse git version-control github egit share|improve this question edited Apr 6 '12 at 4:15 asked Apr 5 '12 at 23:13 rogueleaderr 1,4331629 Excellent.
