Could not create the Java virtual machine. Press any key to continue . error occurred during initialization of vm linux . . So for the last two weeks, i've been using my desktop with 6GB of RAM and through error occurred during initialization of vm unable to load native library the run.bat script made it as high as 1568MB that I could dedicate. Well I just got my 2nd set of RAM so now i've got 12GB (6x2) and I still https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YmGiGj7mkQc can't go higher. Am I missing something? I don't know much about the java code line Code: @ECHO OFF SET BINDIR=%~dp0 "%ProgramFiles(x86)%\Java\jre6\bin\java.exe" -Xincgc -Xmx1586M -jar "%BINDIR%\craftbukkit-0.0.1-snapshot.jar" PAUSE but I've seen people with 8G in there so I know it's possible. Also going the Code: @echo off SET BINDIR=%~dp0 "%ProgramFiles(x86)%\Java\jre6\bin\java.exe" -Xmx1586m -Xms1586m -jar craftbukkit-0.0.1-SNAPSHOT.jar pause route doesn't do anything better for me either. I know https://bukkit.org/threads/solved-error-occurred-during-initialization-of-vm.10595/ a little about java but the difference between "xmx/xms" and "xincgc/xmx" escapes me. halp plox. byzantinian, 31, 2011 #1 Offline bastion My BukkitDev ProfileMy Plugins (1) you have to use a 64 bit java version. google windows 64 bit java. bastion, 31, 2011 #2 Offline byzantinian yeah i noticed my the process was running as java 32-bit, but it's only running at half of what a 32-bit system can recognize. I didn't think that could be it. I'm sure it is, it just doesn't make sense to me that I need a 64-bit version to use more RAM beyond 1.5 rather than 3.5...unless that's a known limitation with Java. byzantinian, 31, 2011 #3 Offline TnT Retired Staff My BukkitDev ProfileMy Plugins (2) Java x86 can only use 1536M - hence yes, its a Java limitation. If you have x64 Windows, open IE x64, goto java.com, download and install. Then try with this batch file: Code: @echo off java -Xincgc -Xmx3G -jar craftbukkit-0.0.1-SNAPSHOT.jar nogui pause TnT, 31, 2011 #4 Offline byzantinian wow thanks! I didn't know there was a magic number for 32bit java.

This application is running error occurred fine on machines with 6gb or less. I am trying to reserve 3GB of space using -Xmx3G under "VM Arguments" in Run Configurations in Eclipse. Every time I try to reserve more than 1500mb, I get this error: “Error occurred during initialization of VM; Could not reserve enough space for object heap” using -Xmx3G What is going on here? java eclipse jvm jvm-arguments share|improve this question asked Feb 16 '12 at 0:37 user1212731 266133 2 What version of java do you have? What operating system error occurred during are you running on? –Adam Rofer Feb 16 '12 at 2:07 This was Win7, and I had 3 different Java versions installed. One of those was the 32-bit JRE that Eclipse was using. –user1212731 Feb 16 '12 at 19:32 3 Don't forget to mark an answer as correct. –xdhmoore Mar 20 '13 at 21:10 add a comment| 10 Answers 10 active oldest votes up vote 43 down vote Could it be that you're using a 32-bit jvm on that machine? share|improve this answer answered Feb 16 '12 at 0:46 Laurent 61749 2 Sorry for the stupid question, but how would I check that? And how can I use 64-bit? –user1212731 Feb 16 '12 at 0:48 2 Actually, I just tried java -d64 -version in the command line, and it came up with 64-bit server VM. –user1212731 Feb 16 '12 at 0:51 5 Apparently Eclipse was using the 32-bit version of JRE that I had installed previously, even though the 64-bit was the latest installation. I changed the settings in Preferences --> Installed JREs to solve this issue. Thank you very much for your answer! –user1212731 Feb 16 '12 at 19:28 3 in any case, shouldnt 32 bit be enough to address 4gb? –Thomas May 24 '13 at 12:36 5 It should be, but this solves my problem. No upvote for this answer because of the lack of explanation. This link explains how a 32bit jvm can't go over 1gb max heap space –Steven Nov 20 '13 at 9:54 |
