We say "supposedly" greatest as it seems not many people are able to get their hands on it just yet to test it out thanks to a "Software Update Failed" error message that is being displayed to a large percentage of iOS device owners trying to download the update. The error message is being presented to the user almost immediately after agreeing to the terms and conditions while performing an OTA update, with no more information other than "An error occurred downloading iOS 9". Apple prides itself on the fact that it tries to make each major software update available to as many devices as possible. It's in the Cupertino-based company's best interest to keep as many consumers as possible using the latest version of iOS on its devices, which includes the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. There doesn't appear to be any additional information being provided about this download error at the moment, but we can tell you that it certainly isn't discriminating against particular device types, with all of the aforementioned hardware experiencing the issue. In addition to being experienced across all of Apple's hardware, there are reports that the problem doesn't appear to be localized, meaning that consumers all over the world are experiencing the same error message. Without having a full and official explanation from Apple we can only really take an educated guess at what the problem is here. The logical conclusion is that the hype surrounding the release of iOS 9
time out, not start at all, or sometimes throw an error message saying "Unable to Check for Update. An error occurred while checking for a software update." or "The network connection could not be established." If you're having trouble downloading iOS 5.1 from Apple's servers, try these fixes: Reset Network Settings on iOS Device: Tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings Clear Hosts File: Look at your hosts file for anything blocking Apple's servers and comment them out, this is mostly relevant to jailbreakers and if you see "Error 3194" Change DNS Servers: Adjusting DNS on either the computer you are downloading from or iOS device if using OTA can resolve the issue, instructions on how to do so are below Changing DNS http://www.redmondpie.com/fix-for-ios-9-software-update-failed-error/ seems to be the most reliable method, here is how to do so in iOS and OS X. Changing DNS in iOS Tap on Settings, tap on "Wi-Fi", and tap on the blue arrow next to the router name Under "DHCP" tab tap on "DNS" and replace with: "8.8.8.8" for Google DNS, or "208.67.222.222" for OpenDNS Tap the Back button and attempt to use OTA again Change DNS in OS X Open System Preferences from the Apple menu Click on "Network" and then click on ‘Advanced' http://osxdaily.com/2012/03/09/cant-download-ios-5-1-try-these-fixes/ in the lower right corner Click the "DNS" tab and then add a new DNS server by clicking the "+" icon, adding either "8.8.8.8" for Google DNS or "208.67.222.222" for OpenDNS Drag the newly added DNS server to the top of the list, click "OK" then close out of System Preferences On a Mac you may need to follow this up with flushing DNS cache, so open the Terminal and type the following: dscacheutil -flushcache Now try opening iTunes and updating, or try to download iOS 5.1 firmware directly from Apple again. An unrelated but pleasant side effect of changing DNS can be that your wi-fi speeds increase, give it a try and let us know if it works for you. Thanks to Aygie and Sayed for the DNS tips! rather frustrating error message stating "Software Update Failed. An error occurred downloading iOS 9." and, naturally you're probably looking for a solution for that error message to get iOS 9 updated http://osxdaily.com/2015/09/16/2-solutions-for-the-software-update-failed-error-downloading-ios-9/ successfully on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, right? Well there's good news, this is a https://www.quora.com/Ios-9-2-1-is-downloaded-but-does-not-install-on-my-iPad-What-should-I-do really easy error to resolve… The solution to this "Software Update Failed" error message? Patience. Or, if you have no patience at all, you can use manual firmware updates… but that's really only for advanced users. Recommended: The Patient Solution To elaborate, tap on the "Close" button to close the error message, then wait a few minutes before tapping on "Download and error occurred Install" again. Some users get lucky and are quickly able to download the update, others may need to wait again for another few minutes. This error message occurs when you and millions of other users are pounding Apple download servers simultaneously, and the content delivery network is overloaded. Thus, the only real solution is to wait for the download, or if you're super impatient, use the IPSW firmware to update instead. Seriously, just wait a bit. If error occurred installing you're looking for something to do while you wait, here's an awesome website to explore! For Advanced Users Only: The Immediate Solution Advanced users who are comfortable with firmware files can ignore the software update failed error message by downloading the appropriate firmware for their iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch model, and updating iOS 9 manually with the IPSW file. You can find the iOS 9 IPSW file download links for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch here. Scroll down to find the file which matches your device, update to iTunes 12.3, then use the IPSW for the update. The IPSW approach is really not applicable to the average user, however, and the vast majority of iPhone and iPad owners are better off just waiting for the update to work through iOS Settings. Don't worry, Apple servers will catch up quickly, and you'll be running iOS 9 in no time. Enjoy this tip?
