Actual Behavior: .NET Foundation member balajikris commented Mar 2, 2016 @dpoeschl -- I think you'd know something about this, since you restructured this sub-tree? .NET Foundation member dpoeschl commented Mar 2, 2016 @balajikris Yeah, I suspect this happens when you have Update 1 or prior in Program Files, with future installed into netflix an error occurred loading this content your hive. If we care about this scenario (temporarily), then we should see if it can be remedied with some guid alterations in csharppackage. This could possibly make the "error occurred" messages go away, but you'd still have the duplicate Formatting node. Alternatively I could publish instructions on how to "fix" the programfiles Roslyn to not interfere with the hive's option pages... .NET Foundation member balajikris commented Mar 2, 2016 when you have Update 1 or prior in Program Files, with future installed into your hive ooh that. thanks for clarifying. If that's what is going on here, I don't think I care, personally. However, it may be useful to publish instructions as we may keep running into this while we're also actively working with the options page. When I run Visual Studio, go to Tools > NuGet Package Manager, and select 1 of the 3 options (Package Manager Console, Manage NuGet Packages for Solution or http://stackoverflow.com/questions/31618344/nuget-package-manager-unresponsive-in-vs-2015 Package Manager Settings), nothing happens. The menu closes and no windows appear. When I go to Options > NuGet Package Manager, I get "An error occurred loading this property page." I have tried uninstalling and re-installing NuGet Package Manager from Extensions and Updates, but this doesn't solve the problem. I have also downloaded NuGet.Tools.vsix and when I run this, it tells me that the extension is already installed to all applicable products. I don't know if I'm missing a setting that enables the Package Manager in Visual Studio, or if this problem is caused by something else... visual-studio share|improve this question edited Jul 24 '15 at 19:46 asked Jul 24 '15 at 19:28 sean 2061413 add a comment| 5 Answers 5 active oldest votes up vote 5 down vote Un-install Nuget Package that came with Visual Studio 2015 RTM ( Tools->Extensions and Updates). Xaml Designer decided to stop working. Every time I open the designer by clicking on a xaml file, it would show https://loune.net/2016/04/issue-with-xaml-designer-an-error-occurred-loading-this-property-page/ an error dialog that says "Visual Studio has encountered an unexpected error." - not very helpful. Going to the menu, Options > Xaml Designer > General property page would yield https://baondp.wordpress.com/2009/12/23/visual-studio-xml-formatting-error-an-error-occurred-loading-this-property-page/ an error "An error occurred loading this property page". I then tried re-installing Visual Studio 2015. Same issue. I then tried opening Expression Blend, it doesn't work, but I got a error occurred some more interesting clues - it tells me to check ActivityLog.xml - In it, there was a telling error:
SetSite failed for package [XamlDesignerPackage][This access control list is not in canonical form and therefore cannot be modified.
Basically my permissions were corrupted somewhere in some file. I had a hunch. A test by logging on to a fresh error occurred loading Windows user account and opening VS xaml editor confirmed that the issue was limited to my profile account. I tried remove all traces of Visual Studio from profile but removing the obvious AppData folder didn't fix the issue. There were just too many places it hides files. As a last resort, I reset all permissions on my profile folder such that I was the owner and had write access and surprise! it works!! Now I know what to try next time.
