I've tried everything I can think of and everything I can find elsewhere on the web, to no avail so I decided to give 'actually asking the experts for help' a try I am told I have limited or no connectivity. I have tried to repair the connection and am told: following action cannot be completed: Renewing your IP address I have tried going into command prompt and ipconfig(see below for results) and ipconfig/release then ipconfig/renew it responds with: "an error occirred while renewing interface Local Area Connection : A socket operation enountered a dead network." and "An error occurred while renewing interface Wireless Network Connection : A socket operation encountered a dead network." The command prompt option has been tried with wired and wireless connection, as well as in standard mode and safe

I'm sure I'll miss some important information. Last week my computer (running winxp 32bit service pack 3) error occurred lost the connection to the internet. All it says on the connection status is limited or no connectivity. I thought my wireless adapter died so i bought a new one. I was on the phone with them for an hour. We came to the conclusion the adapter is working properly. The last thing they had me try was an ipconfig/release. The message that came up was, "No operation can be performed on local area connection while it an error occurred has it's media disconnected." Then i did ipconfig/renew. Same message but also, "An error occurred while renewing interface wireless network connection: an address incompatible with the requested protocol was used. And I tried renew again. Same message to start and also: An Operation was attempted on something that is not a socket. I should also add that I was looking around the internet and found something that sounded like my problem and did some registry changes/deletions. It did fix one of the problems but not the connection one. One more thing I tried that I found on a post somewhere. Since the ip address wasn't renewing, someone said to put it in manually. The address was 192.168.0.2 and the subnet was 255.255.255.0. This did work to say I was connected but still couldn't access the internet. I changed it back to find ip address automatically. My question is this. Is there a patch or something out there that I can put on a flash drive and install to fix the problem?
