While Moving Virtual Machine(s) Storage - General Access Denies 0x80070005 the most likely cause is that the path you have used on one volume is not IDENTICAL on the volume you are trying to move the VHDx's to. In my case I was using C:\ClusterStorage\Volume1\Virtual Hard Disks and trying to move the disks to: C:\ClusterStorage\Volume2\Hyper-V\Virtual Hard Disks Now you may ask yourself, why anyone would create different paths vmware an error occurred while quiescing the virtual machine when they are setting up disk… and I wish I had a good explanation but I just don't. The solution to moving VHDx's from Volume1\Virtual Hard Disks was to create a Volume2\Virtual Hard Disks folder. I read lots of blogs about how to move virtual machine storage and about General Access Denies 0x80070005 that referenced ideas like: Use FAILOVER CLUSTER MANGER on the Host that has the disks currently (and not just the FCM Console from your workstation) Changing permissions Creating folders that are named the same as the VM in question but then I found this post which mentioned: "For a clustered host, either Windows Server-based or VMware-based, the default virtual machine path is a shared volume on the cluster that VMM automatically creates when you add the cluster as a host. When you add a clustered host, you cannot specify additional default paths in the Add Host Wizard. Also, after a host cluster is added, you cannot specify additional default virtual machine paths on the Placement tab of the host properties." http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc917914.aspx That got me thinking about the paths so that you to whoever wrote that bit in TechNet. An Error Occurred While Attempting To Export The Virtual Machine General Access Denied
2 Next > ZaidatB Messages: 13 I have been trying unsuccessfully for the past 3 days to transfer my Windows Vista Home Edition PC an error occurred while moving the virtual machine storage to my new iMac that has an operating system of OS Lion 10.7.2 via the network connection. It would load and work and then quit, saying that the transfer could not be made. So I hooked up an external hard http://www.urtech.ca/2016/04/solved-failover-cluster-manager-an-error-occurred-while-moving-virtual-machines-storage-general-access-denied-0x80070005/ drive to my PC and proceeded to download the contents to the external drive. After 6 attempts, my PC finally transferred to the external drive. Now I have connect the external drive to my mac, I can see the virtual machine there. But when I try to transfer, I get the following error repeatedly (this is after is acts like it is transferring fine for 2 hours) "An error occurred while adding the virtual machine. Unable to add the virtual https://forum.parallels.com/threads/cant-install-virtual-machine-from-pc-to-my-mac.209911/ machine because some of its files are read-only or the specified path does not exist. Make sure that the path is valid and you have the write permission for the virtual machine files and folder and try again." Because it was just saying that it could not transfer and it would immediately go back a step. This error is new. I am not sure what to do. I really need this to work because I need to be able to use Stamps.com on this Mac. Thanks for your help in advance! Unable to get write access to the virtual hard disk. Do you want to open it in the read-only mode? To be able to modify the virtual hard disk contents, you must have read-write permissions for its file. An Error Occurred While Attempting To Start The Selected Virtual Machine ‘General Access Denied Error’ #HyperV June 26, 2015 The Author Hyper-V 0 Hello folks, The other day, I upgraded my Hyper-V host with the fastest Solid https://charbelnemnom.com/2015/06/an-error-occurred-while-attempting-to-start-the-selected-virtual-machines-general-access-denied-error-hyperv/ State Drive in the market right now. It’s quite expensive, but it deserve the performance Sequential Read: 550 MB/s. Sequential Write: 550 MB/s. Random Read: 100,000 IOPS. Random Write: 90,000 IOPS. Now before I replaced the disk, I copied all my Virtual Machines to a safe location, I replaced the disk and then restore all the Virtual Machines back. When I attempt to start one of the Virtual Machine… Sorry error occurred The error message indicates clearly that Hyper-V does not have enough permissions to access the virtual hard drive. The problem is because I copied all my VMs from one drive to an external drive. Therefore the virtual Machine SID of the virtual hard disk is missing. A while ago I came across a similar issue here An Attempt to initialize VM saved state failed - Could Not Create or Access Saved error occurred while State File. The most common solution is to simply go to the security tab for each Virtual Hard Disk and add the account. Set the permissions (Read/Write). However there is a lot of room for error on this approach, so it is not my favorite. There is always the possibility you missed a setting and something might not work as intended. The second option is to use icacls as documented in the following KB article. The third and my favorite option is to Use Hyper-V manager to remove the disk from the Virtual Machine and then go back in and add it again. Because every time you add a virtual hard disk, Hyper-V will give that Virtual Machine account the required permissions to the virtual hard disks. Now this works great if you have couples of Virtual Machines, but what about if you have dozens of VMs, and each VM with several virtual hard disks. PowerShell to the rescue again For that reason, I wrote a script that would allow you to specify a single virtual machine or a Hyper-V host, and the script would: 1. Turn Off the VM if it’s running (most of time the VM is in offline state because of the missing permission, but there are certai
