Please help. permalink I am running the latest version of iTunes on a 2012 MacBook Pro. I have a recurring problem where tracks in iTunes won't play at all when I click on them even though they are still connected to a file in the iTunes library. When I try to convert one of these dead tracks to another format, I get the following error message, for example: "Error occurred while converting the file 'Everlasting Light'. An unknown error occurred (-50)." This is happening a lot! I did a diagnostic on my two external hard drives (where I keep all my music files) and disk utility says they are OK. One thing I've noticed is that on one of these dead tracks, the mini thumbnail of the artwork in the

Help. Hello TomB.... - welcome to the forum! Sorry, but poor choice of forum (Switcher Hangout) - regardless, you really need to provide more information: 1) What computer are you using (laptop or desktop; model/year); 2) What OS X is installed; 3) Assume you are using iTunes; if so, what version; 4) Is your CD player built-in or attached, e.g. via USB; 5) Does the CD/DVD unit play discs; and 6) Have you tried to rip the CDs mentioned on another optical disc player? Might just help to get us started w/ some suggestions. Dave If you are helped, increase the reputation of the poster - Reply With Quote 07-08-2016,05:46 PM #3 Tom
Sandinista Formerly hightower68 Thread Starter Location: Near a beach, Florida Weird thing just happened that has never (1,000s upon 1,000s of rips) happened to me while ripping a CD to iTunes. I just plopped in a disc to rip an the "!" icon popped up with the text: http://forums.stevehoffman.tv/threads/error-occurred-importing-to-itunes.277151/ An error occurred when converting the file "under my wheels." (ed: 1st song on disc) Required disc could http://mac.bigresource.com/iTunes-error-occurred-while-converting-file-II4rz3jUe.html not be found. I ejected and tried it a few times: same thing. I then tried a few other discs: same thing. Ideas on what happened and how to fix it? Sandinista, Feb 17, 2012 #1 curbach Some guy on the internet Location: The ATX Have you been manually mucking with any of the files where your music is stored? I had a similar problem after deleting some error occurred songs without using the iTunes interface. I think the only way to fix it was to create a new iTunes library. I've also seen something similar when ripping to an external drive routed through a USB hub. Something about the hub was causing a problem. Everything was fine when I connected the drive directly to a USB port. curbach, Feb 17, 2012 #2 Sandinista Formerly hightower68 Thread Starter Location: Near a beach, Florida No, no mucking. I always use the iTunes interface. Thanks for chiming in Curbach (you can always count on a GP/Van Morrison/Alcatrazz fan to try and help ) Sandinista, Feb 17, 2012 #4 stereoptic Anaglyphic GORT Staff Location: NY So what was the solution? stereoptic, Feb 17, 2012 #5 Vidiot See It in Dolby Vision! Location: Hollywood, USA You "called iTunes"? I call it a piece of crap all the time, but rarely get it to respond. And Apple's no help, either. Usually, the "!" error sign indicates the database is corrupt, a file got moved, or the destination directory was set up wrong in the user config. If it's only one file, it's not a big deal. God help you when it's thousands of files. (Though this is easier fixed today than it used to be.) Vidiot, Feb 18, 2012 #6 stereoptic Anaglyphic GORT Staff Location: NY Yeah, but this error occurred before the rip, so there is no file yet to get lost. As far it being easier to find the "!" files, this happened to me once or twice. Once iTunes asked if I want to use the directory to which I pointed to find other lost files, the other time it didn't ask. Even though I clicked the OK , it didn't 'look' for those files and I had to do them one by one anyway! stereoptic, Feb 18, 2012 #7 Geithals Well-Known Member Location: Reykjavik The dupe issue is different, the cause
