Preferring not to be http://www.udel.edu/art/people/grad/people/fogt.html a conventional painter, I would much rather get the color black from burning the surface of the painting till it becomes destroyed or peeling back layers with the palette knife, attacking the canvas like I would do if I were skateboarding aggressively. Destruction is a creative process, and I see the beauty in it all. Abandoned alleys are a blank canvas for chaos, and dry wall can be knocked down to reveal wire and infrastructure. Our American world is so tidy and precious that one room looks like the next and days tend to repeat themselves if you don't let your creativity guide you. I see beauty in entropy and transformation and seek its aesthetics to inform my own work. Patricia BiggsThe Arizona RepublicSept. 10, 2003 02:30 PM For the third time in less than three weeks, Mesa police officers shot a knife-wielding suspect early this morning. Officers were called to the Country Club Greens apartments at 1:56 a.m. by someone reporting that a family member was intoxicated, throwing bottles and wanting to fight. When officers arrived at the apartment at Country Club Drive and 13th Place, the suspect's mother told them he had gone to another apartment where a cousin lived, according to Mesa police Sgt. Mike Goulet. Three officers knocked at that second-floor apartment, in the same complex, and were met at the door by the 24-year-old suspect holding at least one knife. At first, the suspect turned toward two officers. "Then he singles out the third officer, who had retreated," Goulet said. "The officer's back was by the balcony railing. The suspect makes a movement with the knife toward that officer. The officer fires in self-defense." Several shots were fired, striking the suspect more than once. The suspect, described as about 6 foot 1 and 270 pounds, was taken to a hospital and is expected to live. After the shooting, two knives could be seen on the balcony. One was a large butcher knife; the other a smaller knife. It was unclear whether the suspect had a knife in each hand or which knife he might have used to threaten the officers. Goulet said that having three officer-involved shootings in such a short time is hard on the officers. “It’s really disturbing anytime an officer’s involved in a sho
