Need help in updating my farm credentials and the only tool available generates a vague, non descript error. Any help/suggestions would be appreciated. As a result of not being able to update the credentials I get the error message that the service is unavailable when launching the SharePoint Configuration Database. I hope you've already changed the password for that particular account in the AD. Have you tried providing the password in the app_pool for the central admin directly?HK Thursday, February 05, 2009 12:36 AM Reply | Quote 0 Sign in to vote I believe the account being used is the same one as the Central Administration Application Pool account, so you can check in IIS which account you are really using. This surely is not correct wording "updatefarmcredentials", plus you get this error, " Error updating the administration application pool credentials". Huh, something is not correct. I found the answer. If you restart the SQL Server service on the SQL Server this will fix the issue with not being able to open the Central Administration SiteYou then should be able to run the stsadmin script again. Just make sure the password is reset, if it has expired or you cannot remember it, and you are using the correct domain account. chrisdoran Edited by chrisdoran Thursday, February 05, 2009 11:45 AM updated commenting Proposed as answer by chrisdoran Thursday, February 05, 2009 11:45 AM Unproposed as answer by Mike Walsh FIN Thursday

As I did not know the details, I closed after a few guesses/changing the default account. A few hours later, remembering the password, I try again but get a 503 Service Unavailable. I check the app pools in IIS7 and see that the SharePoint Central Administration v4 app pool is off. I turn it on, close IIS7, but it turns off again. Its settings look good to me: Enable http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2304493/app-pool-problems-updating-credentials-in-stsadm 32-bit applications Off Start Automatically True Enabled True However, the application event log tells me that the account I was using to access Central Admin, and used by this app pool, has now expired (it's a local account so I did not know this will happen). This also impacts all other services such as SQL Server etc. How can I change the account of the app pool, but also change all of the other service accounts? The credentials used for the account [name] expired on 1/9/2010 1:33:39 PM, and need to be updated. If they are not updated, the system may stop working. The account is used by the following: Farm Account Microsoft SharePoint Foundation User Code Service User Profile Synchronization Service Web Analytics Data Processing Service Security Token Service Application Application Discovery and Load Balancer Service Application] I assume updatefarmcredentials will fix this. I tried the following: stsadm.exe -o updatefarmcredentials -username sysaccountname -password pwvaluehere -local This results in a "command line error". What is the proper syntax? sharepoint share|improve this question asked Feb 21 '10 at 1:59 dotnetdev 19.1k65176310 add a comment| 1 Answer 1 active oldest votes up vote 0 down vote You can also just change the current System Account password in AD or Computer Management, and mark it to not expire. was trying to update the password for the farm service account, and get the below error message whether I do it in Central Admin or with STSADM: Error http://manish-sharepoint.blogspot.com/2010/05/unable-to-update-farm-credentials.html deploying administration application pool credentials. An object of http://blogs.objectsharp.com/post/2009/11/05/Change-SharePoint-Service-Accounts.aspx the type Microsoft.SharePoint.Administration.SPAdminAppPoolCredentialDeploymentJobDefinition named "job-admin-apppool-change" already exists under the parent Microsoft.SharePoint.Administration.SPTimerService named "SPTimerV4". Rename your object or delete the existing object. This error indicates that either some timer job is running or scheduled but while checking in the Central Administration I found nothing. Later after searching for some time I found that the error updating SharePoint Timer Service was not running. On servers running SharePoint Central Administration site run the following command:stsadm -o updatefarmcredentials -userlogin DOMAIN\USERNAME -password PASSWORD On other servers not running SharePoint Central Administration site run the following command:stsadm -o updatefarmcredentials -userlogin DOMAIN\USERNAME -password PASSWORD -local Run iisreset /noforce to restart IIS To make sure that this operation completed, open SharePoint Central Administration site >> Operations >> Timer job definitions and wait until Administration Application Pool Credential Deployment timer job disappears from the list. Change Application Pool Accounts There are two ways to change application pool accounts in SharePoint: first one using GUI, and the second using STSADM command. To change application pool accounts using GUI: Open SharePoint Central Administration site >> Operations >> Service Accounts (under Security Configuration section) Select Web Application Pool option and pick Web Service and Application Pool you would like to make changes to Enter username and password for application pool service account. You need to do this for each application pool account you would like to change on every SharePoint server in your farm To change application pool account using STSADM command, run: stsadm -o updateaccountpassword -userlogin DOMAIN\USERNAME -password PASSWORD –noadmin Once again, you need to do this for each application pool account you would like to change on every SharePoint server in your farm. There is also a third way to change application pool account – using LaPointe's custom STSADM command extensions: http://stsadm.blogspot.com/2008/10/changing-application-pool-identity-via.html To change application pool account for SharePoint Central Administration web application run: stsadm -o updatefarmcredentials -userlogin DOMAIN\USERNAME -password PASSWORD Change Windows SharePoint Services Help Search account To change Windows SharePoint Services Help Search account, run: stsadm -o spsearch -farmserviceaccount DOMAIN\USERNAME -farmservicepassword PASSWORD Change Default content access account (used by the Windows SharePoint Services Help Search service) To change Default Content Access account, run: stsadm -o spsearch -farmcontentaccessaccount DOMAIN\USERNAME -farmcontentaccesspassword PASSWORD Change Office SharePoint Server Search service account To change Office SharePoint Server Search account, run: stsadm -o osearch -farmserviceaccount DOMAIN\USERNAME -farmservicepassword PASSWORD Change Default content access account (used by the Shared Service Provider) To change Default Content Access account, if the Inf
