Below is how I resolved it. To find the offending design note, convert the view number to hex. #36786 converts to 8FB2. (I use the calculator in Windows, and select View - Scientific. Enter the number in Dec, and then select Hex.) Next, open the database nsf file in Designer, go to the views and bring up the last tab of the properties box; Document IDs. The Note ID begins "NT" and will probably have leading zeros. Ignoring the zeros, look for your view by the Hex ID. Once found, to verify that it is the correct note, open it and try to re-save it. When I do this, I get an error: ?Document has been deleted?. Delete the offending view from the nsf file then locate it in the template. You will need to re-create the view in the ntf, so copy and paste it into itself. Delete the original, and rename the copied version so it has it correct name. After refreshing the design of the nsf file, you should not see this error again. Return to top Error updating view '#36786' in nam... (David Myers 12.Jun.00) . . Log Errors Issue: After an upgrade of a Domino server, a Domino console error updating (typically on an older box not yet upgraded) might say: Error Updating View '#12345' in names.nsf: Document has been deleted. The #12345 is a view's hexadecimal NoteID in decimal format. Using a calculator, convert it to Hex. Use the Notes ID and the properties window in the Designer client to determine which design element view has this error updating view ID. Cause: Typically this message occurs because a botched design refresh while a replication is occurring because of the upgrade from another server. Updall, Fixup and Compact will likely not fix this problem. The issue is that there are likely two of these views, one behind the other, one one deleted but the stub is still "there" enough to allow the server to "see" it. Solution: 1. Verify the application is properly configured with its template (StdR4PublicAddressBook). 2. Go into the Replication Settings / Options for this Replica (File --> Replication --> Settings / File --> Replication --> Options for this Replica). Click the option to disable replication. 3. Using the Designer client, remove the offending view. Refresh using F5 or F9 (F9 if pre-8x release). If another of the same view appears, delete that one, as well. 4. Go back into the Replication Settings/Options, to the Space Savers tab: a. Without enabling, change the number of days from 90 to 0. Click OK to close the dialog. This will cau
Release: Domino Server 4.6x, Domino Server 4.5x, Notes 4.1x, Notes 3.x Document #: 111893 Category: Server\\Administration "Error Updating View in NAMES.NSF: Attempt to Use an Invalid Slot Number" Problem: You are receiving the following error messages on the server console: "Slot Panic (220001): NSF Slotpin: Attempt to pin a deallocated slot NIF: Detected storage corruption error 'Attempt to use an invalid slot number' NIF: in C:\NOTESDAT\NAMES.NSF Collection "($ServerAccess)", ID=754 at 68182 Length 3322 Error updating view in NAMES.NSF: Attempt to use an invalid slot number." What does the error "Error updating view in NAMES.NSF: Attempt to use an invalid slot number" mean? Solution: The above error may been seen: - In the server's log. - In a Notes.RIP file, after a server has crashed. The error points to a corrupted index in the specified database. For example the error message above indicates that there is index corruption in NAMES.NSF. The only way to fix the corruption is to run UPDALL -R on the database or in irreparable cases make a new replica of the database. Running UPDALL -R deletes and then rebuilds the indexes of all previously opened database views. (UPDALL -R will not index a view which has never been opened.) There is no workaround, only repair. Before running UPDALL -R, bring the server down, as UPDALL -R running against the server's public N&A Book will severely impact the performance of the server. Also, if the corrupted index is an index necessary for server usage ($ServerAccess is necessary for new users to login to a server, $Users is necessary to route mail), these operations will simply fail while UPDALL is rebuilding the affected indexes. Steps to correct "INVALID SLOT NUMBER" problem: 1. Bring Notes down, but leave the OS/2 running. 2. Type Updall command at OS/2 prompt. For example: C:\Notes> $Updall NAMES.NSF -R Supporting Information: To run Updall on a single view (as opposed to on an entire database as described above), the syntax is as follows: Load UPDALL names.nsf -T "ViewName" -R Related Documents: Error: "Attempt To Use Invalid Slot Number" Selecting File, Open Database Document #: 113013 © 1999 Lotus Development Corporation, an IBM subsidiar
