There Was An Error While Running 'ldifde.exe' To Import The Schema File
I just like the idea of more automated deployments, inventory control, patching, config management, etc. Even on our humble setup here. While doing the usual install of an MS server product the AD schema needs to be extended. Of course I get the cryptic “Error Code 8206”. As a tip to troubleshoot extending AD, there was an error while running 'ldifde.exe' to import the schema file exchange 2013 just running the “dcdiag".exe” tool before any schema upgrade has been invaluable. This helps tell the health of the AD and can find what was blocking the Schema extension. In my case I had a secondary domain controller which was being replicated to, but had been turned off. Fixed it up and the schema extension worked perfectly 😉 It would be really cool if products that extended the AD Schema put in the error message for AD schema extension “GO and run dcdiag.exe NOW” – this would cut down on a lot of hair pulling and mad searching online for solutions. Hopefully next time I’ll remember to run dcdiag.exe before starting the install…. Comments (1) Cancel reply Name * Email * Website Troubleshooting AD Extension. More details can be found in the error file: 'C:\Users\administrator.TKA\AppData\Local\Temp\ldif.err' Thanks, Tony April 8th, 2010 10:15pm There should be an error log in the %temp% directory called LDIF.ERR that contains the details of the error. Take a look at that log file for more information. Also, make sure you have Schema admin permission. This error (8206) generally means AD replication or related issues. Make sure you can access all DCs and replication is working. Solved Exchange 2010 Prepare Schema failed Posted on 2009-12-28 Exchange 1 Verified Solution 19 Comments 16,908 Views Last Modified: 2013-02-20 I am attempting to install a new Exchange 2010 server at a clients site and it is failing when running the setup.com /prepareschema command. This is some background on the site. To get to the point of even installing Exchange 2010 took some work. Here is what i had to so so far. The site had 3 Windows 2000 servers, 2 were Domain controllers and one just a member server. One of the DC's was also running Exchange 2000. I upgraded the member server to Windows 2003 R2 SP2 and promoted it to a DC and moved all FSMO roles to it. I then demoted the 2 Windows 2000 DC's to member servers. The next step was to upgrade Exchange 2000 to Exchange 2003 SP2. All of this work was smooth and had very few if any issues. The new server is a Windows 2008 R2 x64 install. has been running as a member server for weeks with no issue. I installed all of the pre-requistes on the 2008 server and run the Setup.com /PrepareLegecyExchangePermissions command with no issue i move to the next step of running Setup.com /PrepareSchema and get the following error.
