Question 0 Sign in to vote I have a singleExchange serverin an installing exchange 2010 sp3 rollup 8 organization running Exchange 2010that I want to upgrade to SP3 so I can install Exchange 2013 on another serverand migrate installing exchange 2010 sp3 step by step to it. My problem is this. When I run Setup.exe after extracting all the files, when I get to the splash screen instead of getting the option "Install Microsoft Exchange Server upgrade"

I get the splash screen that looks like I'm installing Exchange 2010 on a server where it's partway through the install already showing steps 1-3 are already done with .NET 3.5 SP1 and Powershell v2 already installed and the language has been chosen (by being grayed out) and the next step is "Install Microsoft Exchange". If I select that next step then I get a

screen titled Exchange Maintenance Mode and then a screen showing the roles already installed. Of course it fails so I'm stuck here. Why am I getting this when I run SP3 instead of getting the upgrade option? And how do I go about fixing it? And I've tried running Setup.exe by right-clicking and selecting Run as Administrator and that didn't help. Product name Build number Date KB Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 SP3 14.3.123.4 2/12/2013 KB2808208 From page:http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/240.exchange-server-and-update-rollups-build-numbers.aspx Thats why you are getting the result you facing... In order to confirm the version you have go to Server Configuration, and check if in version you see the same number 14.3.123.4 And reply again. Regards. Exchange Server 2010. This is a significant release that delivers some key functionality to customers such as install exchange 2010 sp3 on edge server support for Windows Server 2012, support for co-existence with Exchange Server 2013 CU1, and general bug fixes and security updates. If you are planning to upgrade your Exchange https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/exchange/en-US/3ea793f8-a277-4ab5-a903-1828bb59eb20/unable-to-install-sp3-on-exchange-2010?forum=exchange2010 2010 servers to SP3 you should be aware that there is an Active Directory schema update involved. If that is a concern for your environment, but you still want the bug fixes and security updates, you might consider sticking with Service Pack 2 and applying Update Rollup 6 instead. At the time of this writing there are http://exchangeserverpro.com/installing-exchange-server-2010-service-pack-3/ some points in the various release notes that aren't correct or fully updated yet that Microsoft are still working on or that are worth some clarification: Exchange 2010 SP3 is listed as including all security bug fixes up to SP2 UR5-v2. It actually includes all security and bug fixes up to SP2 UR6. The SP3 release notes state you can only install on Windows Server 2008 SP2 or 2008 R2. You can actually install on Windows Server 2012, although exact pre-requisite guidance may not be available yet. The support for Windows Server 2012 includes both the installation of SP3 on Server 2012, and the interoperability of Exchange 2010 SP3 with Server 2012 domain controllers. The support for Windows Server 2012, which ships with PowerShell 3, does not mean that Exchange 2010 SP3 also supports upgrading to PowerShell 3 on other operating systems. The co-existence support for Exchange 2013 does not apply to Exchange 2013 RTM, but rather Exchange 2013 CU1 (cumulative update 1) due for release in Q
had an interesting issue with Exchange 2010 SP3 installation on a SBS 2011 server last night. Installation fails on the Hub Transport Server Role with following errors. This made me scratching my head. https://exchangemaster.wordpress.com/2014/05/27/exchange-2010-sp3-installation-fails-on-sbs-2011/ Why is it trying to remove existing certificate that is used by Exchange? It's also the default SMTP certificate, that's why setup was not able to remove it. After investing further, I see https://community.spiceworks.com/topic/324690-urgent-exchange-2010-sp3-upgrade-caused-email-failure this line in the PowerShell script, "Write-ExchangeSetupLog -Info "Removing default Exchange Certificate"; Get-ExchangeCertificate | where {$_.FriendlyName.ToString() -eq "Microsoft Exchange"} | Remove-ExchangeCertificate" So it's trying to remove default Exchange certificate that was created during exchange 2010 the initial installation, that has friendly name "Microsoft Exchange". I'm thinking, there is no way the Godaddy certificate has Friendly Name "Microsoft Exchange". After looking at the certificate properties, it is indeed the problem. The Friendly Name is showing "Microsoft Exchange", instead of mail.domain.com. In order for us to install SP3, we have to use SBS console to import a temporary certificate, so it updates "LeafCertThumbPrint" property exchange 2010 sp3 in this registry key, "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\SmallBusinessServer\Networking" Note: you can also update the registry manually with one of thumbprint from existing certificate that is already imported. Exchange 2010 SP3 installs fine after the cert change. Since we didn't export the existing GoDaddy certificate before running SP3 setup, it was removed by the setup. In order for Exchange OA and Activesync clients to continue function, we have issue a new certificate request with proper Friendly Name, then import the new certificate. You can also reuse the existing certificate on GoDaddy's website by using "Re-Key" option, but you might end up with a certificate without private key. To repair the missing private key, you can run following command certutil –repairstore my
