Cannot Open Control Pipe Nt_status_pipe_not_available
we set up all the Linux clients (SuSE 9.2) to authenticate using LDAP (nss_ldap). But the main thing is zenoss nt_status_pipe_not_available that we added a Samba server (SuSE 9.0, samba 3.0.14a) to host the user's homes (somewhere in the future, their Windows profiles too). This server also has local LDAP authentication check_ntlm_password failed with error nt_status_no_such_user (it also serves as an SFTP server). In this, samba using just "security = ADS" works just fine, as the uid/gid resolution is made "locally" through LDAP (using the LDAP attibutes added by SFU's schema extension to AD) and thus doesn't require winbind. Using smbclient from within this server works using bothe kerberos and password authentication (more on this in
Check_ntlm_password Authentication For User Failed With Error Nt_status_wrong_password
a minute). In the last few days, I thought of replicating this configuration to another machine, so that I could change it to use winbind (just for kicks, for now). I made sure this was working fine. But... I just can't make winbind authentication work... local or samba. The second I start winbind, access to this machine using smbclient and password stops working. The error is: ------------------ "session setup failed: NT_STATUS_PIPE_NOT_AVAILABLE" ------------------ However, if I do a "kinit user" followed by "smbclient -k", it works (which proves kerberos authentication is still working). Local authentication simply doesn't work... Although "getent passwd/group" returns the right thing, something like a "finger user" always fails. "wbinfo -u", "wbinfo -g" and "wbinfo --sequence" also shows (apparently) correct output. "wbinfo -t" outputs the following errors: ------------------ "checking the trust secret via RPC calls failed error code was NT_STATUS_PIPE_NOT_AVAILABLE (0xc00000ac) Could not check secret" ------------------ This is starting to annoy me beyond reason. I've followed every howto out there and after many hours, it still doesn't work... Any ideas? Thanks in advance, Carlos Rodrigues ############### smb.conf ###

One of those computers is running on Windows 8. On this network, http://superuser.com/questions/598580/windows-8-how-to-enable-net-rpc-shutdown I have an embedded system on Debian that I use for VPN and SMB purposes. I has already scripts that do some wakeOnLan. I've found recently that I can shutdown computers with Samba, using the command net rpc shutdown. However, when I do it, i get an error: could not initialise pipe \winreg. Error was NT_STATUS_OBJECT_NAME_NOT_FOUND I've found here that a local user was, by default, not allowed to perform a shutdown remotely. I've searched into the register the key to edit, but I couldn't find it. It's at another place. So, do you know how I can enable this "shutdown on LAN"? windows-8 shutdown samba share|improve this question edited Jun 22 '14 at 15:47 Cristian Ciupitu 3,1891926 asked May 22 '13 at 13:03 patxy 14917 add a comment| 1 Answer 1 active oldest votes up vote 2 down vote accepted Missing \winreg might mean that the RemoteRegistry service is not running; try using the following commands in Windows: sc config RemoteRegistry start= auto sc start RemoteRegistry share|improve this answer answered May 22 '13 at 14:45 grawity 157k
