The machines inbound authentication failed with error logondenied for receive connector ntlm at 194.x.x.x is trying (and failing) to authenticate. Most likely they're trying to find an account with a weak password (although it could just be an employee with a misconfigured e-mail client). --- Rich Matheisen MCSE+I, Exchange MVP --- Rich Matheisen MCSE+I, Exchange MVP Proposed as answer by VijayaRelangovan Wednesday, November 02, 2011 10:13 AM Marked as answer by Xiu Zhang Monday, November 21, 2011 3:00 AM Tuesday, November 01, 2011 2:12 PM Reply | Quote 0 Sign in to vote Hi, Then please look at the similar thread and try to apply kb828731. The old https://www.experts-exchange.com/questions/28393855/Inbound-authentication-failed-with-error-LogonDenied-for-Receive-connector-Default-SERVERNAME-The-authentication-mechanism-is-Login.html one just failed and a disasterrecovery install failed as well so we removed the exchange server from ADSI. The server is online and accepting email now but we are getting a new error in event log that we never had before. Does anyone know how to fix the below error? The authentication mechanism is Login Posted on 2014-03-20 Exchange SBS 2 Verified Solutions 4 Comments 3,555 Views Last Modified: 2014-03-21 Hi all, First I'll start by saying I'm an Exchange novice, so I'm a bit green when it comes to exchange in general. Looking through the error and event logs, I noticed a bunch of the errors in the attached file. Is this something to be concerned with? I am not familiar with the IP address listed, concerned someone is trying to hack in? or perhaps nothing to concerned about? I also have seen the same error message with a different IP - 196.204.141.122 Thanks in advance ERRORLOG.txt 0 Question by:ChiIT Facebook Twitter LinkedIn Google LVL 63 Active 1 day ago Best Solution bySimon Butler (Sembee) Standard authenticated relaying attack. If you have your own server on the internet, then it happens. Alternatively, you could switch to a cloud based spam provider like AppRiver or Barracuda so your email hits the cloud then comes to your server. This way, you can set your firewall and Exchange to only allow inbound SMTP from your spam provider. This is probably people trying to bruteforce their way in. 0 LVL 2 Overall: Level 2 Exchange 1 Message Author Comment by:ChiIT2014-03-21 Thanks for respondi
