It uses Kerberos 5/openLDAP in the background to check_sam_security couldn t find user in passdb auth users. I can successfully perform the following from any Linux client. Code: kinit username@REALM smbclient -k -L //server.domain smbclient -k //server.domain/share I can take any action in the smbclient window and see that reflected on the file system with all the correct file/folder permissions. --- I then have a Windows 7 Home Premium x64 client. However, if I try to access \\server.domain\share, there is a huge delay, and then it prompts for username and password. I enter the credentials for the same username@REALM, and get told "The specified network password is not correct." If I try to browse to the root at \\server.domain\ it prompts almost immediately, but gives the error "Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password." I have successfully installed "Kerberos for Windows" on the Win7 client, and it can obtain a ticket for the username. Unfortunately, I can't then use that ticket when browsing to the share, but it proves that the credentials are correct. Have I misconfigured Samba? Do I need any additional services on Samba for this to be inter-operable (e.g. KCRAP)? Regards, Rob. /etc/samba/smb.conf Code: [global] workgroup = REALM realm = REALM netbios name = HOSTNAME server string = Samba server server role = standalone server services = smb hosts allow = 10. dns proxy = no dns forwarder = 10.x.x.x interfaces = lo, em1 bind interfaces only = yes syslog = 0 log file = /var/log/samba/log.

At one point I have tested this and it worked without an issue so I didn't backup my conf file (grrr). Now I have http://serverfault.com/questions/210641/configure-samba-share-accessible-by-windows-service been fighting with it and nothing I try will work. I have my windows service setup to login as a domain user and I am logged into the server as that user and can connect to the samba server without it prompting me for a password; however when I run my service is gets a Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password. Edit #1 9-Dec-2010 1654 GMT/ 0954 MST I upgraded to Samba v3.3.8-0.52.el5_5.2 and was able to finally get some useful logs, however no matter what I do I can not get a user to map and correctly authenticate. I did not back up the old config file from my previous install as i wanted to start from scratch. i mounted my hard drives again, re-created users, re-established shared folders, and created the SMB/CIFS Shares. The first user i setup went fine, i was able to mount the share on my linux desktop. The second user failed with error is being more problematic. I tried to mount the share on another linux desktop and i am getting the following error in my log file: smbd[28182]: check_ntlm_password: Authentication for user [user2] -> [user2] FAILED with error NT_STATUS_WRONG_PASSWORD I thought there was something jacked up with my password so i changed it to something ridiculously small and easy to type in the command line. I still can't get the share to mount properly. I am using the same syntax to mount both shares. the share mounted fine with the original setup. If it would be helpful i can post the line in my fstab i use to mount the shares. I can also up the log level if the error message i posted isn't enough information. If anybody has any ideas about what could be causing this please share, it's driving me crazy. Thanks, I really really appreciate the help.
