The burner is a Matshita UJ-832D. It used to burn very well on Ubuntu. But now I'm having the same issue described in the thread Power calibration Error? I checked the firmware version running DISCInfo 1.7.0 BETA on wine. It says 1.61 and I can't find any newer version from Google and Sony Vaio support websites. lshw outputs: Code: description: DVD writer product: UJ-832D vendor: MATSHITA physical id: 0.1.0 bus info: scsi@0:0.1.0 logical name: /dev/cdrom logical name: /dev/cdrw logical name: /dev/dvd logical name: /dev/dvdrw logical name: /dev/scd0 logical name: /dev/sr0 version: 1.61 capabilities: removable audio cd-r cd-rw dvd dvd-r configuration: ansiversion=5 status=nodisc Brasero outputs: Code: BraseroGrowisofs stderr: :-[ WRITE@LBA=300h failed with SK=3h/POWER CALIBRATION AREA ERROR]: Input/output error BraseroGr

DVD-R and CD-RW burning is working well. I haven't tried DVD+RW, however my burner does support both formats. The error does not depend on whether the DVD has been writen to before or not. I've also tried burning a DVD-RW using graveman which also doesn't work.
