Since I could get neither Lighttpd nor Apache to run, I tried Samba. After creating this simple /tmp/smb.conf (in /tmp because the Samba directory is read-only)... Code: [global] workgroup = WORKGROUP ;commented by me to investigate ;encrypt passwords = yes wins support = yes log level = 1 max log size = 1000 read only = no [homes] browsable = no map archive = yes [tes

I would like guest access (no prompt for username & pass) and write access on my /home dir. Right now, when I browse to my samba share it prompts for a username and pass despite having the allow guest options in my conf. It won't even let me login to my own share with https://forums.opensuse.org/showthread.php/494735-Samba-and-guest-access my current username and pass. I've tried many other options and commenting various lines in the global part but nothing works. Here's my smb.conf Code: [global] workgroup = WORKGROUP netbios name = Devbook passdb backend = tdbsam printing = cups printcap name = cups printcap cache time = 750 cups options = raw map to guest = Bad User include = /etc/samba/dhcp.conf logon path = \\%L\profiles\.msprofile logon home = \\%L\%U\.9xprofile logon drive = P: usershare allow guests = No domain logons = Yes domain master = Yes security = user wins support = No add machine script = /usr/sbin/useradd -c Machine -d /var/lib/nobody -s /bin/false %m$ local master = Yes os level = 65 preferred master = Yes wins server = [users] comment = All users path = /home read only = No inherit acls = Yes veto files = /aquota.user/groups/shares/ browseable = Yes create mask = 755 directory mask = 755 guest ok = Yes guest only = Yes Reply With Quote 22-Jan-2014,16:12 #2 venzkep View Profile View Forum Posts View Blog Entries View Articles Wise Penguin Join Date Nov 2009 Location ND, USA Posts 1,140 Re: Samba and guest access On 1/22/2014 2:36 PM, own3dbydsquared wrote: > > I'm setting up a simple samba share on my home network. At one point I have tested this and it worked without an issue so I didn't backup my conf file (grrr). Now I have been fighting with it and nothing I try will work. I have my windows service failed with error setup to login as a domain user and I am logged into the server as that user and can connect to the samba server without it prompting me for a password; however when I run my service is gets a Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password. Edit #1 9-Dec-2010 1654 GMT/ 0954 MST I upgraded to Samba v3.3.8-0.52.el5_5.2 and was able to finally get some useful logs, however no matter what I do I can not get a user to map and correctly authenticate. I did not back up the old config file from my previous install as i wanted to start from scratch. i mounted my hard drives again, re-created users, re-established shared folders, and created the SMB/CIFS Shares. The first user i setup went fine, i was able to mount the share on my linux desktop. The second user is being more problematic. I tried to mount the share on another linux desktop and i am getting the following error in my log file: smbd[28182]: check_ntlm_password: Authentication for user [user2] -> [user2] FAILED with error NT_STATUS_WRONG_PASSWORD I thought there was something jacked up with my password so i changed it to something ridiculously small and easy to type in the command line. I still can't get the share to mount properly. I am using the same syntax to mount both shares. the share mounted fine with the original setup. If it would be helpful i can post the line in my fstab i use to mount the shares. I can also up the log level if the error message i posted isn't enough information. If anybody has any ideas about what could be causing this please share, it's driving me crazy. Thanks, I really really appreciate the help.
