Since I could get neither Lighttpd nor Apache to run, I tried Samba. After creating this simple /tmp/smb.conf (in /tmp because the Samba directory is read-only)... Code: [global] workgroup = WORKGROUP ;commented by me to investigate ;encrypt passwords = yes wins support = yes log level = 1 max log size = 1000 read only = no [homes] browsable = no map archive = yes [tes

I would like guest access (no prompt for username & pass) and https://forums.opensuse.org/showthread.php/494735-Samba-and-guest-access write access on my /home dir. Right now, when I browse to my samba share it prompts for a username and pass despite having the allow guest options in my conf. It won't even let me login to my own share with my current username and pass. I've tried many other options and commenting various lines in the global part but nothing works. Here's my smb.conf Code: [global] workgroup = WORKGROUP netbios name = Devbook passdb backend = tdbsam printing = cups printcap name = cups printcap cache time = 750 cups options = raw map to guest = Bad User include = /etc/samba/dhcp.conf logon path = \\%L\profiles\.msprofile logon home = \\%L\%U\.9xprofile logon drive = P: usershare allow guests = No domain logons = Yes domain master = Yes security = user wins support = No add machine script = /usr/sbin/useradd -c Machine -d /var/lib/nobody -s /bin/false %m$ local master = Yes os level = 65 preferred master = Yes wins server = [users] comment = All users path = /home read only = No inherit acls = Yes veto files = /aquota.user/groups/shares/ browseable = Yes create mask = 755 directory mask = 75
Server Authentication Problem tgiceApril 20th, 2010, 10:15 PMI've been working for hours with Samba on Ubuntu Server 9.10 (Samba version https://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-1458908.html 3.4.0), trying to get it setup simply as a fileserver that performs https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=47286 authentication to an NT 4 server (yes, I know, old and out of date). After much struggling, I finally realized that my configuration *was* working when the clients connecting (from XP, and Win2k clients, mostly) were actually joined to the domain (where the PDC is the failed with NT 4 Server) and logged into the domain. For various reasons, many of the Windows clients at this location don't actually log into the domain, even though they have login/passwords that are valid users on the domain and they'll typically have some drives mapped to the PDC. By the way, I have this working on another Linux box running failed with error Samba 3.0.28, so I'm sure it's possible, I'm just lost as to how to do it. When I try to connect to a share on my new Samba box, I see entries like these in the logs: [2010/04/20 15:24:29, 3] auth/auth.c:222(check_ntlm_password) check_ntlm_password: Checking password for unmapped user []\[]@[client1] with the new password interface [2010/04/20 15:24:29, 3] auth/auth.c:225(check_ntlm_password) check_ntlm_password: mapped user is: [FILESRV]\[]@[client1] [2010/04/20 15:24:29, 3] auth/auth.c:271(check_ntlm_password) check_ntlm_password: guest authentication for user [] succeeded [2010/04/20 15:24:29, 0] param/loadparm.c:9783(widelinks_warning) Share 'IPC$' has wide links and unix extensions enabled. Posts: 12 Little help with samba? Hi everyone!First I'd like to say that Arch is the best linux distro I have used. Better than ubuntu!! I just switched from ubuntu I ran into problems and solved them one by one....sound....scim....I can't believe that samba is what's stopping me. I can't get any other computers on my network to access my shared folder, only one folder inside /home. Windows complains about cannot access blahblah; another Slax live cd machine opens the folder then says the folder doesn't exist. my smb.conf is very simple:[share] path = /home/hsjc/share available = yes browsable = yes public = yes guest ok = yes writable = yes [global] workgroup = WORKGROUP netbios name = hsjc-arch security = share include = /etc/samba/usershare.confI can access other computers on the network alright.... Any help will be appreciated.EDIT: Some update. I've been working on this all night. By adding the log I found that [2008/04/18 01:43:52, 2] auth/auth.c:check_ntlm_password(319) check_ntlm_password: Authentication for user [nobody] -> [nobody] FAILED with error NT_STATUS_NO_SUCH_USERThis is what i dont understand. I set public = yes and why am I getting this authentication error? Now the log says authentication for user [nobody] -> [nobody] -> [nobody] succeededBut windows still gives the cannot access error. I checked my permission and also edited my hosts.allow t
