Invalid Argument for large import or link P: n/a veaux Peeked around here but didn't really see an explanation as to the varied "Invalid Argument" errors that appear in Access sometimes. I'm using Access 2003 and trying to import an Access table of ~200,000 records into my DB. I've tried importing, linking, exporting the original table to txt and importing or linking to that. Then I tried exporting the https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/835416 table to it's own DB (which worked) but still cant then import or link to the DB I'm using. I get "Invalid Argument" errors. There's no code or anything and I've repaired and compacted all relevant DB at least 3 times each, rebooted, shut down and restart and nothing works. This happened to me about 2 yrs ago with importing "large" files and seems like an https://bytes.com/topic/access/answers/552361-invalid-argument-large-import-link Access bug, but is there anything that can be done??? I've wasted a day already trying to get this data in!! Thanks, Darrell Oct 20 '06 #1 Post Reply Share this Question 2 Replies P: n/a Kc-Mass Try setting up an append query that only transfers maybe a fourth of your import data at a time Kevin C 6.1 - Error messages related to SQL or Access Problem: I have been using PROMODAG Reports for months without any problem and I now obtain various 'Invalid argument' error http://portal.promodag.com/kb/a10182/access-database-i-receive-various-invalid-argument-error-messages-when-attempting.aspx messages when attempting to import data, or run reports. What is happening? Explanation: You are using an Access database, and Microsoft set the size limitation of *.mdb files to 2 http://data-base-recovery.blogspot.com/2011/09/resolve-invalid-argument-error-in-ms.html GB. Please make sure that you are not about to reach that physical limit; in that case, the database may be trying to expand beyond 2 GB due to temporary invalid argument tables created by PROMODAG Reports while it generates reports. See also: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/835416 Solution: Please attempt to delete a few data imports (if this is still possible)as follows: Go to File > Import Message Tracking Data, select your Exchange server in the right pane, then click the Server Properties button. A new window opens. In the Message Trackingtab, select the most recent ms access import tracking filein the list. Click the Delete button. If it works, delete the next one... Once you have cleared 5 or 6 of those data imports, go to File > Database Properties and try to compact the database. Should you need to purge more records, use the Tools > Purge Message Tracking Data option as it is explained in this article: How to manually purge data from your database.
