6.1 - Error messages related to SQL or Access Problem: I have been using PROMODAG Reports for months without any problem and I now obtain various 'Invalid argument' error messages when attempting to import data, or run reports. What is happening? Explanation: You are using an Access database, and Microsoft set the size limitation of *.mdb files to 2 GB. Please make sure that you are not about to reach that physical limit; in that case, the database may be trying to expand beyond 2 GB due to temporary http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/msoffice/forum/msoffice_access-mso_winother/got-pop-up-error-invalid-argument-when-using/18d8553d-a1c1-4881-93bc-3040f7d6f729 tables created by PROMODAG Reports while it generates reports. See also: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/835416 Solution: Please attempt to delete a few data imports (if this is still possible)as follows: Go to File > Import Message Tracking Data, select your Exchange server in the right pane, then click the Server Properties button. A new window opens. In the Message Trackingtab, select the most recent http://portal.promodag.com/kb/a10182/access-database-i-receive-various-invalid-argument-error-messages-when-attempting.aspx tracking filein the list. Click the Delete button. If it works, delete the next one... Once you have cleared 5 or 6 of those data imports, go to File > Database Properties and try to compact the database. Should you need to purge more records, use the Tools > Purge Message Tracking Data option as it is explained in this article: How to manually purge data from your database. When I run a simple UPDATE query (e.g. as follows) that works fine in MS Access 2007 version, I get the pop-up error message "Invalid Argument". Code: UPDATE [Store List] SET [Store List].Manager = "John" WHERE ((([Store List].Manager)="Mike")); The database is well below the 2GB limit. Another weird phenomenon is: when I manually change some values using copy-paste upon the ms access query table, the error "Invalid Argument" pops up too; if I ignore it and continue pasting the new values, the update can be done. How to deal with this issue? Thanks in advance. lookingforK View Public Profile Find More Posts by lookingforK 06-24-2013, 12:40 PM #2 SOS Registered Lunatic Join Date: Aug 2008 Location: Somewhere between here and there Posts: 3,520 Thanks: 2 Thanked 54 Times in 52 Posts Re: Got pop-up error "Invalid Argument" when using UPDATE query in MS Access 2010 It may not be that query that is causing the problem. It may be something else. Go to the VB Window and to DEBUG > COMPILE and see if any errors show up. If so, fix and do it again until there are none. Sometimes the errors that Access reports have nothing to do with the actual problem. Invalid Argument for large import or link P: n/a veaux Peeked around here but didn't really see an explanation as to the varied "Invalid Argument" errors that appear in Access sometimes. I'm using Access 2003 and trying to import an Access table of ~200,000 records into my DB. I've tried importing, linking, exporting the original table to txt and importing or linking to that. Then I tried exporting the table to it's own DB (which worked) but still cant then import or link to the DB I'm using. I get "Invalid Argument" errors. There's no code or anything and I've repaired and compacted all relevant DB at least 3 times each, rebooted, shut down and restart and nothing works. This happened to me about 2 yrs ago with importing "large" files and seems like an Access bug, but is there anything that can be done??? I've wasted a day already trying to get this data in!!
