Posted on 2010-08-08 SBS Exchange 1 Verified Solution 13 Comments 1,660 Views Last Modified: 2012-05-10 Hi, I've almost completed migrating a Small Business Server 2003 installation to a Small Business Server 2008 on a new server. However when I reboot the new server Exchange 2007 is not starting up. I'm getting the following message in the log : The Microsoft Exchange Information Store https://www.experts-exchange.com/questions/26388010/SBS2008-Exchange-2007-The-Microsoft-Exchange-Information-Store-service-terminated-with-service-specific-error-0-0x0.html service terminated with service-specific error 0 (0x0). If I start the Informatoin Store manually it all seems fine. There don't seem to be any other relevant errors in the System log that might seem to cause this. Any ideas ? 0 Question by:SGSMikeG Facebook Twitter LinkedIn Google LVL 3 Best Solution byacerimmer10 Sounds like it is starting before another service is started. I would modify the services to Automatic (Delayed Start) and see if that helps. Not much to go with. Take a look at this post from tushar. http://forums.msexchange.org/fb.aspx?m=1800395984 If that doesn't fix your problem, can you open the error in Event Viewer and copy the entire error message and post it here? Also specify what the OS version is and what version of Exchange you are running. 0 Jalapeno OP Best Answer Paullie T Jun 21, 2011 at 10:12 UTC After hours of researching and retrying stuff, it seems like this was my solution. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/285116 We're still having problems with OWA not being accessible though, although that is much more minor of a problem. 0 Datil OP Helpful Post Jono Jun 21, 2011 at 11:23 UTC If you restart the IIS on that server now that the Exchange problem is fixed you would probably fix your OWA problem 0 Jalapeno OP Paullie T Jun 22, 2011 at 1:01 UTC OWA is working now, somehow the properties of Webmail dropped the SSL port. However, I'm getting red X's for images, although the emails are being displayed. 0 Sonora OP Ernesto9399 Jun 22, 2011 at 6:08 UTC Hello my Friend,
email and closer inspection of the logs shows that the 'exchange information store' wasn't running. Logs as follows... -------------------------------------------------------- logs/system/error 'The microsoft exchange information store service terminated with service-specific error 0 (0x0) logs/application/error 'Unable to initialize the microsoft exchange information store service. failed to initialize security - error 0x80004005' -------------------------------------------------------- What am I missing here? Any pointers appreciated. Thanks Speedy Gonzales14-06-2007, 07:23 PMHave a look thru some of these (http://search.microsoft.com/results.aspx?q=Unable+to+initialize+the+microsoft+ exchange+information+store+service.+failed+to+init ialize+security&qsc0=0&SearchBtn0=Search&FORM=QBME1&l=1&mkt=en-US&PageType=99) clap14-06-2007, 07:36 PMThanks, I have been searching through MS support and googling but without much success. My knowledge of SBS is pretty limited, I'm just looking for any hints from a SBS guru... CYaBro14-06-2007, 10:06 PMHave you tried restarting the service? ronyville14-06-2007, 10:37 PMHave you tried restarting the service? And if the service doesnt start than try restarting the server. clap14-06-2007, 10:44 PMHere is what I have tried so far. - restarting service and all other exchange services. - restarting server multiple times - checking security permissions mentions in the MS KB - installing exchange 2003 sp2 - running setup.exe /ForestPrep - running setup.exe /DomainPrep - downloading and running exchange database recovery tool (no luck), it did a defrag on the mail database but had no effect on the service Now i'm out of options. This machine is weird with its harddrives though. Every now and then there will be talk of ntfs failure in the logs. But would this stop a service and make it complain of security privileges? Any thoughts? CYaBro14-06-2007, 11:11 PMHave you got antivirus software on the SBS box that checks exchange email? If so try disabling that and restarting the service. Also, how big is your information store file? clap14-06-2007, 11:17 PMGood point... I will hunt around for any antivirus, do you think the antivirus could interpret the service as a virus and block it? The private mail database is a little of 2.2GB if that helps? CYaBro14-06-2007, 11:20 PM2.2GB is not that big so don't think that is t
