At my job we seem to have an odd problem with sending emails on Exchange - any emails to one of our clients doesn't send. When http://arstechnica.com/civis/viewtopic.php?t=46948 we look on the server in the email section we have a folder just for that domain name, and when highlighted the text at the bottom of the screen reads "SMTP Protocol Occurred".Does anyone have any idea what is causing this and how we can fix it. I'm sorry for the vague description - if anyone has any questions I will do what I can to answer them! parkgoons Ars Scholae Palatinae Registered: May 15, 2007Posts: 729 Posted: Sat Nov 28, 2009 9:45 pm My first guess would be that you do not have a ptr record.A while ago, we had this issue and once we added that record, we could sent to aol.com and hotmail.com users. This tool may help.http://www.microsoft.com/downl...c80a9&displaylang=enYou'd probably get better responses in the windows technical forum. yak8998 Ars Praetorian Registered: May 29, 2007Posts: 473 Posted: Sun Nov 29, 2009 9:32 pm log onto the exchange server and try sending an email via telnet from there. You should be able to get more info at that point erratick Ars Legatus Legionis Registered: Jan 26, 2000Posts: 10972 Posted: Sun Nov 29, 2009

I looked into the Message queue on my SBS2k3 server and noticed that several recipients are showing up in the queue with a state of "Retry". When I highlight the recipient, the additional queue information says "An SMTP protocol error occured". How can I find out more specifically what error occured, and how could I then go about correcting it? exchange smtp queue share|improve this question edited Jan 27 '15 at 1:21 HopelessN00b 44.4k1798168 asked May 26 '10 at 21:28 Mike C 265623 add a comment| 1 Answer 1 active oldest votes up vote 1 down vote accepted You can right click or double click the message (can't remember exactly) and you might get more information. Also, if you have SMTP logging enabled you can check that. You can also telnet to the SMTP server on port 25 and go through parts of the process to see if anything comes up. Also, see this answer to a question I asked for some more advice. share|improve this answer answered May 26 '10 at 21:31 Kyle Brandt♦ 57.7k41217385 add a comment| Your Answer draft saved draft discarded Sign up or log in Sign up using Google Sign up using Facebook Sign up using Email and Password Post as a guest Name Email Post as a guest Name Email discard By posting your answer, you agree to the privacy policy and terms of service.
