Error: "3040,40018" appears on Norton Security Suite or Norton Business Suite The error happens if you already have a non-Symantec security product on your computer. Symantec recommends that you run only one antivirus or antispyware product. Running only Norton Security Suite or Norton Business Suite provides the best protection and minimizes conflicts between security programs. We suggest that you uninstall any non-Symantec security product from your computer. For instructions to remove a non-Symantec security program from your computer, read the program documentation or contact the program manufacturer. If you do not have a non-Symantec security product or if the problem persists even after uninstalling the non-Symantec security product, go to Step 1. STEP1 Update your Virus Definitions Go to the Intelligent Updater downloads page. Depending on your version of Windows, do one of the following: For Windows (32-bit): Click the first file in the list under Filename. The file name starts with the year and ends with v5i32.exe. e.g. 20070828-017-v5i32.exe For Windows (64-bit): Go to the 64-bit Platforms section, and click the first file in the list under Filename. The file name starts with the year and ends with v5i64.exe. e.g. 20090922-017-v5i64.exe Save the file to the Windows desktop. On the desktop, double-click the file that you saved. STEP2 Enable Auto-Protect at startup Start your Norton product. Click Settings. Under Detailed Settings, click Antivirus. On the Automatic Protection tab, if the Boot Time Protection shows Off, move the slider towards middle to Normal. Under Real Time Protection, if Auto-Protect shows Off, click the status indicator to turn it On. Click Apply, and then click Close. STEP3 Start the computer in safe mode Exit all the programs. Press the Windows + R keys to open the Run dialog box. Type in the following text, and then press Enter msconfig If the User Account Control window appears, click OK or Continue. In the System Configuration Utility window, on the Boot tab, check Safeboot. For Windows XP, in the System Configuration Utility window, on the BOOT.INI tab, check/SAFEBOOT.
