64 bit SP1 24 posts Scotland Excel 2010 - Out of memory? Not enough resources. When a user is opening a second Excel sheet the following error message appears: 'Excel cannot complete this task with available resources. Choose less https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2779852 data or close other applications.' The files are saved on a network drive and I am able to open them fine on my PC which is the exact same spec and setup. I have deleted the files in C:\users\username\appdata\microsoft\excel and rebooted the PC but the error still appears. It is happening to all sheets, no matter their size or content, most don't have macros. Don't know what else to try?! If there is a bunch of "stuff" running that isn't required to do the job, close them (OneNote, Office Upload Center or whatever it's called, RSS feeds, manufacturer's "utilities" - you get the idea). The open the Task Manager and look at the running processes. Click the Memory column header to sort by memory use - evaluate and take appropriate course of action. Next look at the Performance tab for more clues. This workbook contains seven worksheets, one for each month, January through July. The worksheets contain quite a few formulas, and a graph is inserted in each worksheet. The first six graphs were created just fine, but whenever Graham tries to create the graph on the seventh sheet, he gets an "out of memory" error. Chances are good that you aren't actually running out of memory, but are somehow running out of resources. The end result, however, is the same--Excel doesn't have what it needs to continue with the operation. This situation seems to be a known problem with Excel 97, and Microsoft has addressed it in Knowledge Base article 168650: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/168650 If this doesn't solve the problem, it could be that the workbook itself is corrupted in some manner. The only way to determine if this is the cause is to recreate the workbook, from scratch (no copying and pasting), and see if the problem goes away. ExcelTips is your source for

This discussion is locked jvakos Level 1 (0 points) Q: MS Excel - out of memory error - excel wont open I have a Macbook pro with 2 GB of memory and never had any issues opening MS Excel until now. The issue is Excel will not open and gives an error stating "Not enough Memory" for some reason and no spreadsheet can be opened regardless of the size (most are small, under 1 MB files). Please, any suggestions on what to do? I cant imaging buying more memory because MS Excel was working fine for over 1 year and all of a sudden this "not enough memory" error appears. The first thing I'd recommend doing is looking at Activity Monitor (Under the System Memory Tab) and see where you memory is being used and quit any processes that seem to be taking up lots of RAM. 2 MB isn't a lot of memory to begin with so it's possible a memory upgrade would be recommended. Let us know what you find out.Regards,Roger Helpful (0) Reply options Link to this post by jvakos, jvakos Apr 26, 2010 10:24 AM in response to rkaufmann87 Level 1 (0 points) Apr 26, 2010 10:24 AM in response to rkaufmann87 Roger,Thanks for the response. I did shut down all un-necessary apps to maximize the memory and did a full disk repair / permissions repair and still get that Excel error "out of memory". Excel keeps hanging at the point of "Optimizing Fonts" or something then it gives the error. ANy other suggestions??Thanks for the help! John Helpful (0) Reply options L
