Drives Software Legacy Products Error: "There is not enough free space..." when transferring files larger than 4 GB Answer ID 528 This article explains how to overcome the inability to transfer files larger than 4GB to an external hard drive.*END <-- --> Problem: While attempting to create or transfer files larger than 4GB onto an external hard drive, an error message appears: There is not enough free space on there is not enough space on wd unlocker my external drive. Cause: This error is caused due to the destination hard drive running a FAT32 File System. This File System is recognized by most computer operating systems, but has a 4 GB file transfer and creation limitation. This means that files cannot be created or transferred to the hard drive if the file or group of files are larger than 4GB. Solution: If running Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista, XP, or running Mac OSX, the external hard drive can be reformatted to either NTFS (Windows) or HFS+ (Mac) File Systems instead. The drive is 8 gigs, I've got various files on there that take up ~2+ gigs, and about 5.7 gigs of space remaining. The PST file is ~5.0 gigs not enough space and has already been compressed down from ~10 gigs. Can anyone help me out? Seems like I've got plenty of free disk space to do this. Conversely, if this approach won't work, can I buy a cable of some sort that will allow me to connect two computers and transfer the file from my work PC to my home Mac? Any ideas? While attempting to create or transfer large files onto an USB external hard drive, an error message appears:"There is not enough free space on the hard drive. Delete one or more files to free disk space, and then try again." Meanwhile, Windows suggests you to click "Disk Cleanup" to free disk space by deleting old or unnecessary files, which seems exactly the same with "hard drive is full" issue. But the fact is that: there is enough free space on the drive to save these files. How could this error message appear? Top Recommendation: In most cases, this error message appears as "the file xxx is too large for the destination file system". Why There Is Not Enough Free Space on the Drive This may seem confusing, but if you try copying more other files to this external hard drive, you may

One day you get the nasty message telling you that there is not enough free disk space to save, copy, paste, or download something! How do you clear up all that space without parting with all those precious files? This article can show you how to clean up crap you don't need and also some crap you probably don't even know exists! Please note that all of the steps below are optional, and this isn't a STEP-BY-STEP, you may do this in any order you like, and you don't even have to do them all. Steps Method 1 Deleting files 1 Use either the command prompt or Windows Explorer (for most users, Windows Explorer), and enter the C:\Program Files directory. Open the folders for all computer games you play and delete any saved games that you no longer need, such as really old save games. If you don't know what files are the save games, skip this step. 2 Enter the My Documents directory on your account and look at all of the files. Any files you haven't used in a long period of time and don't need, delete them. This includes old songs that you don’t listen to anymore and files such as old homework. Note the date that you last used that file. If it was a long time ago (a few months, for example), there’s probably no point in keeping it. . You can use Windows Explorer by displaying details on the files. The last detail is, by default, the time it was last used. Move old pictures to an
