I kept getting the following error message: "Time Machine could not complete the backup. The backup disk image could not be created (error 45)"This is how to fix it and get your backups working (follow carefully and in order and you'll have it up and running in no time):The basic concept is Time Machine needs to create a sparsebundle image to save the backups to. The key here is creating your own, BUT knowing where to save it on the Stora and knowing where to point Time Machine to using it.1) Firstly, be sure to enable the 'Computer Backups' feature in the Stora Preferences (through the landing page), and assign a password (I found it worked best for me to use the same password that i used for the main admin user of the Stora).2) Go to System Preferences on your Mac > Sharing and make sure you have a computer name, no more than 8 characters. For instance i use: mymac. Remember this name, you will need it later!3) Open Utilities > Terminal and type in:ifconfig en0 | grep etherThis will display your ethernet address. You will get something similar to 00:1f:f3:46:61:04. Keep this window open, you will need it later!4) Open Utilities > Disk Utilitya) Select th

Time Machine Error 45 Creating Backup Disk Image
Join Date Dec 2010 Posts 1 Time machine error 17 and 45 I am using an external hard disc - Seagate goFlex Home time machine error 1 connected to Wifi Router. The first time machine setup worked fine and I got to backup my Mac probook just fine. After a month I got error messages saying backup failed. now I try to create a https://community.netgear.com/t5/Stora-Legacy/Solution-to-quot-Time-Machine-could-not-complete-the-backup/td-p/294697 new backup by 1. selecting backup disc NONE and then 2 creating new backup -selecting the backup device and time machine tries to "make disc space available" - this is taking about 2 minutes. Then I get an error message: Time machine could not complete the backup. The backup disk image"/Volumes/GoFlexHome Public-1/KM's MacBook Pro.sparsebundle" could not be created (error 45). The error is displayed as error 17 as well. I have no problem accessing the network http://www.mactalk.com.au/19/96115-time-machine-error-17-45-a.html drive at all thanks Kai Reply With Quote 26th December 2010,08:23 AM #2 snark Join Date Apr 2005 Location Melbonia Posts 2,192 In my experience, backing up using Time Machine to a disk connected to your wireless router works perfectly well - until it doesn't. I had the same thing happen to me when I used a NAS drive. Unless you are using a Time Capsule, you really are better off connecting the disk directly to your machine. Because Time Machine uses a dual-ended checksum protocol, it is only compatible with a directly-connected USB/FW/SATA drive, a networked Time Capsule, or another Mac running OSX 10.5.2 or greater. Even though Apple's own AEBS lets Time Machine save its backup bundle to an AirDisk, it is officially unsupported. Once a Time Machine archive develops a fault, the entire archive is un-usable, and should be deleted and the whole backup started over from scratch. The issue with backing up over a network is that you may not have sufficient privilege to write into the folders on the network dri

Well I attempted to do that (Running 10.6 build 10a432) however so far I am unsuccessful. Here is what I did. First ran the command defaults write com.apple.systempreferences TMShowUnsupportedNetworkVolumes 1 so that TM would show the Backup drive. Then created my sparcebundle with the command hdiutil create -size 200G -fs HFS+J -type SPARSEBUNDLE Sexybook_00-25-00-cd-d7-08.sparsebundle and moved it to my server using finder. I clicked "Backup Now" in TM, and it gave me error code 45 stating that the disk couldn't be created. I restarted both the server and the Mac, and still the same issue. I checked the system log and this was what I found.
