Unable to complete backup. An error occurred while creating the backup folder." Googling and reading Pondini's website, "http://pondini.org/TM/C10.html", suggested running Disk Utility and performing Repair Disk, as per "http://pondini.org/TM/A5a.html". If the disk showed OK, then perform a full reset of Time Machine, as per "http://pondini.org/TM/A4.html". Repair Disk showed OK. After performing a full reset Time Machine began making backups again with no errors. While using the computer it was noticed that the external hard drive used for the backups was formatted "Mac OS Extended (Case sensitive, Journaled)". The internal hard drive that was being backed up was formatted "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)". Pondini explains that this may present a problem when restoring files (see the pink box at the bottom of this page, "http://pondini.org/TM/5.html") so the external drive was reformatted using "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)" and new backups were created. It's unknown as to why the "com.apple.TimeMachine.plist" file was corrupted. Maybe the difference in formatting between the two drives caused some data corruption of the plist file as the backups were performing for about a month before the error occurred. 8/8/2013 7:38 PM 41050200 Joined: 2/2/2013 Posts: 43 Re: Time Machine Error - "error occurred while creating the backup folder" After several hours of making backups this Time Machine error has returned. Apparently, the plist file was not corrupted after all since the plist file was deleted again after this second error, and the error reappeared within a couple of backups. The external drive used for these Time Machine backups is a Toshiba Canvio portable external drive. More googling turned up an issue with these particular Toshiba drives where the spin up time as the drive comes out of its sleep mode causes Time Machine to think the drive is not available and TM consequently produces this error. A very small and simple free app, "Keep Drive Spinning" (http://jon.stovell.info/personal/Soft...), was installed to keep the drive spinning continuously to determine if this was the cause of the error on this computer. After several days of backups with no error it appears that this was the problem with this drive. Once it was determined that the drive was the source of the Time Machine error then a decision needed to be made as to whether or not to continue operating the drive with it turning continuo
