been trying to use Safe mode to rule out possible configuration abnormalities. However, on both of my test machines, I get an error unknown hard error blue screen dialog titled: explorer.exe - System Warning with the content showing a yellow triangle and the wording Unknown Hard Error ... preventing me getting into Safe mode. here's a pic (note I have moved the dialog to show http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_8-performance/explorerexe-system-warning-dialog-with-unknown/4c0be311-c9d5-46e7-b352-c8656f5c0226 the start button in the same view) Any clues? As I said, this happens on both machines; one is a Dell 9150 desktop and the other a dell E6520 laptop. Other than this problem, the E6520 works fine in normal mode, although the desktop has other problems with an explorer crash/restart loop at startup. I have ran tons of diagnostics, memory tests, read the MS KB, read posts here, computing.net, Googled, Yahoo'd, and nothing I've read applies or unknown hard error supplies a remedy. Many posts seem to indicate that the user is getting a file name of where the problem is originating, this is not happening on this machine. The computer does not blue screen, and no errors are being recorded in the Event Log. At times, the computer will just shut off. Mostly when using Microsoft Office products such as Word or Excel. Other times when the user tried to print. I have disconnected the USB printer the user has and set her up to a network printer, but this does not resolve anything. I have put new power supplies in, changed the DIMM, pretty much everything to eliminate hardware. If you have real life experience with this problem and can offer assistance please do. Please don't copy & past links from other posts, I have read every single post in EE, none apply. I am offering 500 points (I tried to offer 1000, but EE says I can't) as this is going to be something only a hands on tech will be able to assist me with.
