Unknown Hard Error Blue Screen
RSS Share STOP: c0000221 Unknown Hard Error Posted by Atlanta Mat on 5 Sep 2003 21:06 Hello, Recently I
Systemroot System32 Ntdll.dll Blue Screen
tried to reinstall Windows XPProfessionalon my Dell Inspirion 8200, and when inserting the disk, after installing drivers but right before the welcome to setup and Liscence agreement screens, it popped up with https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/101096 a blue screen with this message at the top: STOP: c0000221 Unknown Hard Error \SystemRoot\System32\ntdll.dll I figure that it is just some random error, so I try to reinstall again, but this time, I format and fdisk before running the disk. Unfortunately, it still came up with this error using the Dell Disk for reinstalling the OS. One of the classes I am http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/disk-drives/f/3534/t/1724825 currently taking in college had a 120 day evaluation copy of XP Pro, so I try to install that to make sure if it is my computer, or the disk, and it installs just fine with no hitches. But, it is only good for a limited amount of time, and I would really like to have the OS that I payed 200 bucks for to work. I searched the forum for that error code, and a few others have had the same problem, but I have not seen a resolution besides "reinstall xp", which I have tried to do with that disk many, many times. Also, I tried using your telephone number to get live tech support, and I never got thru in the hour that I waited, even though I have an express service tag (not very express if you ask me). Hopefully I will get a resolution using this forum, I don't want to go buy a non OEM version of XP when I already bought a copy that should work fine. Thank you, Mat Like 0 Reply You have posted to a forum that requires a moderator

Blue Screen = STOP: d0000144 UNKNOWN HARD ERROR Started by gawlfer , Oct 20 2006 02:56 PM Please log in to reply #1 gawlfer unknown hard Posted 20 October 2006 - 02:56 PM gawlfer Member Member 12 posts I am hoping that someone here can help me out, I would really appreciate it. When I booted my PC yesterday everything seemed fine until about 30 seconds after the desktop appeared. It was then that I heard an unfamiliar click then got the blue screen of death with the message: STOP:d0000144 UNKNOWN HARD ERROR unknown hard error After getting the same result after 3 manual power downs and reboots, I booted unknown hard error in Safe mode and tried running McAfee antivirus but got a message saying there were not enough system resources. I tried running Spybot Search and got the same message. Then I went to Recovery Console mode and ran chkdsk /r which ran succesfully and reported that it found and repaired 1 or more problems. I attempted to reboot normally with the same blue screen result. Next I tried booting with the last known good Windows settings but also got the same blue screen result. I then tried using System Restore but got a message saying that the file could not be found (for three separate dates). I am now at my wits end and desperately need some help. I built this system one year ago and haven't had any problems until now. The specs are as follows: Windows XP Pro P4 ht 3.0ghz 2gb ddr pc3200 Maxtor 200gb hd Thank you in advance for any assistance you can provide. 0 Advertisements #2 Neil Jones Posted 20 October 2006 - 04:16 PM Neil Jones Member 5k Member 8,476 posts This came up here last year, and this link was posted:http://support.micro...kb;en-us;156669Failing this, the most common cause is often faulty hardware, so Google for Memtest86 and run that for a while. 0 #3 gawlfer Posted 20 October 2006 - 04:57 PM gawlfer Member Topic Starter Member 12 posts Thank you for your reply. The installation loads a bunch of files, then as it says it is starting Windows, the above error comes. Tried several times, both with easy install and without, with the same result. Tried also another WinXP Home OEM CD and ended up with the same error. The error is ambigous: it can be a corrupted or incompatible file.http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314474/en-us http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000961.htmSince CDs from two different vendors produce the same error, I wonder whether the following comment from VMWare doc applies:"Note Some Microsoft Windows OEM discs included with new computers are customized for those computers and include device drivers and other utilities specific to the hardware system. Even if you can install this Windows operating system on your physical computer, you might not be able to install it in a virtual machine. You might need to purchase a new copy of Windows to install in a virtual machine."However, I read here and elswhere that other people use OEM disks, including Dell, without problems, and the XP disk I bought was advertised to install on any PC. 1943Views Tags: none (add) windows_xpContent tagged with windows_xp, vmware_fusionContent tagged with vmware_fusion, installationContent tagged with installation This content has been marked as final.
