While I was http://www.overclockers.com/forums/showthread.php/404541-Windows-XP-(c0000221-Unknown-Hard-Error) at it, he also wanted to upgrade the drive. So, I pop in the new 160 Gig hard drive and boot the Windows XP Home (Dell recovery since it's a dell computer). Everything was fine, I keyed in the cd key, the computer name, the time then it gives me an error saying that it could not find a file. Click ok to reboot. So, I figured, ok, let's try that again. Now when I boot from CD, it give me this error. "STOP: C0000221 Unknown Hard Error \systemRoot\system32\ntdll.dll" I cannot go any further. I've built my fair share of computers and never came accross this yet. I'm stummped. I did a search and people are saying that the it may be the installation disk. So I tried to use my own XP to install, still the same. It cannot be the drive since, it's new. I tried trouble shoot the memory and nothing. I pulled any pci and just left the video card. I'm stummped. Please help. From what I could tell, the HD cable was responsible for the problems, though being a propriatry laptop ribbon cable I can't verify that. I'd

Solved STOP: C000021a Unknown Hard Error Posted on 2005-06-26 Windows XP 1 Verified Solution 10 Comments 13,532 Views Last Modified: 2011-08-18 Hi, A pc running Windows XP Pro presents a blue screen with STOP: C000021a Unknown Hard Error. A boot to safe mode is unsuccessful, the same screen appears. I've tried a unknown hard Windows repair, but after the pc reboots the same error prevents the repair process from continuing. I can access the recovery console and have tried a bootcfg /rebuild with no luck. All help much appreciated. This problem may occur if the file that is described in the error message is corrupted. The following files are checked for integrity when Microsoft Windows XP starts: • All driver files (except those that are loaded by the system loader to start. the computer) • All dynamic-link libraries (DLLs), including User, Graphics Device Interface (GDI), Shell, Kernel, Ntdll, Crtdll, and others. This problem may occur if you install an inappropriate driver for your hardware. For example, you receive one of the error messages that are described in the "Summary" section if you install a millions of instructions per second (MIPS) driver on an X86-based computer. This problem may occur if an Iomega Zip drive is on the same integrated device electronics (IDE) cable as the hard disk drive.
