Try a System Restore from here Boot into Safe Mode by pressing F8 at bootup and choose 'Safe mode with command prompt' At the command prompt type C:\Windows\system32\restore\rstrui.exe Hopefully System Restore will open so choose a Restore Point a few days ago. If that does not work I think you will have to do a Repair of XP Elaine If it ain't broke, leave it alone. I just rolled it back to a point in February, before the errors started happening. Some include UNKNOWN HARD ERROR, IRQL DRIVERS NOT LESS OR EQUAL, and PAGE FAULT ON NONPAGED AREA. For about a week the errors were almost nonexistent. Then the BSODs started happening today after using http://superuser.com/questions/926361/what-does-unknown-hard-error-mean the computer for 15 minutes, then 5 minute, then 1 minute, and now seemingly instantly after choosing a user. I tried running it safe mode. No luck. Last known good config- zilch. I haven't done anything to the computer as in fatal changes. Any help? I can't access the computer AT ALL. I edited it in PopAGraph so you could see the error clearly. I turned off Auto Restart after crash so I could take a picture, and THAT welcomed me home from vacation. I haven't changed anything in the WINDOWS folder etc... but now that I think of it the BSODs started happening when my 5 y/o brother was on it one morning when I wasn't awake yet. đŸ˜¦ (as noted before, around February) windows-7 bsod share|improve this question edited Aug 25 '15 at 16:52 DavidPostill 58.9k18120149 asked Jun 10 '15 at 20:27 lucs100 11 Check heatsinks are well attached and fans are running well and not clogged with crud. A rapidly deteriorating machine could have a heat problem. Can you boot from a Linux LiveCD at all? That would at least give you an idea if your Windows is hosed as if Linux can run fine then the majority of the hardware will be be established as probably okay. –Mokubai♦ Jun 10 '15 at

Ok first off I tried installing Windows Vista Home Premium on my new 24in iMac and after installation had problems installing drivers. Found out it was because I had a 64 bit version of Vista and the iMacs dont support that. Then I got a copy of XP Home Service Pack 3 from a friend to try. Im not sure if it is 32 or 64 bit but I was going to try it anyways. Its starts to extract the files and get ready for the install but not long after it does that it gives me an unknown error and the blue screen of death."STOP: c0000221 Unknown Hard Error\SystemRoot\System32\ntdll.dll"Does anyone know what this means? I would really like to get one of them installed. I dont care which one...if anyone knows how I can put a 64bit version of Vista on my iMac that would probably be best since it installed fine and just messed up when installing the drivers. Otherwise can anyone tell me what to do about this unknown error? Or do I need to search around for yet another operating system cd?Any help will be greatly appreciated. 24in iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.1), 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3, 640 GB HD Posted on Sep 21, 2009 8:09 PM I have this question too Close Q: Unknown Hard Error when installing Windows XP?
