trying to backup my Outlook Express 6 address book (running Windows XP Home SP2). This is what I am doing, per official Micorosft instructions (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;270670): 1.On http://www.velocityreviews.com/threads/cannot-export-oe-address-book.231400/ the File menu, click Export, and then click Address Book. 2.Click Text File (Comma https://forums.techguy.org/threads/solved-outlook-express-contact-list-becomes-hidden.1014994/ Separated Values), and then click Export. 3.Click Browse. 4.Locate the Mail Backup folder that you created. 5.In the File Name box, type address book backup, and then click Save. 6.Click Next. 7.Click to select the check boxes for the fields that you want to export, and then click Finish. But when I finish step 7, it says address book "Error exporting the address book". I have tried multiple times. Any ideas? Thanks! Guy, we highly recommend that you visit our Guide for New Members. Solved: Outlook Express contact list becomes hidden Discussion in 'Web & Email' started by bestill, Aug 29, 2011. Thread Status: Not open for further replies. Page 1 of 2 1 2 Next > Advertisement bestill Thread Starter Joined: Aug 29, 2011 Messages: 8 My Outlook Express contact list has disappeared. I can make the contact plane on the lower-left conrner appear, but it doesn't display the contacts. However, the contacts are not lost. When I click on the Address Book, although the contacts do not appear, I am able to use the find or look-up function to locate any contacts that were there before. I am able to locate the .wab address book, but when I click on it, it shows the exact same thing as the address book above--the contacts are hidden but retrievable. Any idea about how to make the hidden contact list appear in the address book? Thanks! bestill, Aug 29, 2011 #1 Sponsor Lozzy-loz Joined: Feb 5, 2010 Messages: 531 Try this,go to inbox click on view then layout then tick the box that says contacts and hopefully they should appear in the bottom left hand side Lozzy-loz, Aug 29, 2011 #2 throoper Trusted Advisor Joined: Jan 20, 2007 Messages: 5,166 bestill said: ↑ Any idea about how to make the hidden contact list appear in the address book? Thanks!Click to expand... If it's not just a "View" issue as mentioned by Lozzy-loz, then you probably have over 1000 contacts in the address book. Delete unneeded contacts and Export those you think you might someday want (but don't really need right now) to another WAB file to reduce the number below 1000. On doing an Export, verify they are in the new WAB then delete them from the OE Address book. throoper, Aug 29, 2011 #3 bestill Thread Starter Joined: Aug 29, 2011 Messages: 8 Thank you, Lozzy-loz and throoper. It is not a View issue, and my contacts are less than 200. I had searched the web for this issue, but it seemed to me that there was no solution yet. I suspect it has something to do with the registry? bestill, Aug 30, 2011 #4 throoper Trusted Advisor Joined: Jan 20, 2007 Messages: 5,166 I think I misunderstood. It's not just the Contacts Pane in OE that isn't displaying the names, but also the Address Book itself? If that's right, try doing the Export. Open the Address Book and click File>Export>Address Book(WAB). Just name it Export and save it to your desktop. Double click Export and see if it displays your contacts. throoper,
