The proceedure I followed: exporting address book from outlook 2010 1. Went to Outlook express and selected File/Export/Address Book. An Address Book Export Tool window comes up with message, " Select the program or file type to export your address book to". The only file shown https://www.cnet.com/forums/discussions/outlook-express-address-book-cannot-export-111595/ is, Text File(Comma Separated Values). This permits the address book to be exported as a .csv file. When I try to import the address book into the second computer, the computer asks for a file with a .wab extension and doesnt recognize the .csv file. 22:02:28 I have a group of entries (a folder within Windows Address Book) from which I want to generate a CSV or TSV file for use in Word mail-merge. I notice that http://www.verycomputer.com/211_2c2356e417fa9419_1.htm within the Address Book app there is a facility for exporting to CSV (File https://support.mozilla.org/questions/1047989 | Export | Other Address Book | CSV) but whenever I try it, it fails: having specified a filename (eg C:\test.txt) and selected the fields to include, the wizard returns to the prompt "MS Exchange Personal Address Book / Text File (CSV)" with an error message "Error exporting the Address Book". The file is not being created, address book even with zero length. What am I doing wrong? I'm using IE/OE 6 on XP Home SP2. The fault is reproducible on three different PCs. Microsoft's Knowledge Base (eg http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;811380) implies that I'm following the correct procedure and that having pressed "Finish" on the form where I choose the fields, the file should be generated. The entries (if not created within a group's properties sheet) could be copied to a free standing, non-default address book and then exported from the new book's Main Contacts folder. Start, click Run, and enter wab /new OK After naming the file the new book will open. Address book import from csv file gets empty address book 2 replies 8 have this problem 1234 views Last reply by Gnospen 1 year ago joenelan Posted 2/21/15, 9:49 AM I have a .csv file created from a Windows "Contacts" window. It contains some four hundred entries, each consisting only of a Name and Email address. The first line of the .csv file says "Name,Email"; the entries are separated by returns and the fields within them by commas. When I import from it intoThunderbird, I say to import an address book from the file, and to import only Display Name and Primary Email fields. When the import runs, it's very fast and no errors are shown. The new address book appears among the Thunderbird address books, but it's empty. Thanks, Joe Nelan Chosen solution To import an address book, try these steps: From TB, click on 'Address Book' (or 3-bar menu -> Tools -> Address Book). In the list of address books in the left pane, click on the one you want to import (or use 'Personal Address Book'). From the menu bar, select Tools -> Import. An new window 'Import' will open. Click on 'Address Books' and 'Next'. Highlight 'Text file', select 'Next'. Near the lower right corner change LDIF to 'Comma separated'. Navigate to the folder where your CSV file is located. Left click on it once. Click on 'Open'. For CSV, there is no standard for the number or order of the fields. The screen you see allows you to "match up" your input with the fields in TB. As far as matching up the fields, you have two columns: one from your CSV names, and one from TB.
