I'm trying to work with a 'tutorial' from to make an interactive map that pops up info boxes when you hover over certain as3 error 1061 portions of the map. I even downloaded the demo file to make sure I was doing it right. The demo file works fine, and when I import (aka copy-paste) the images into my file and test-run it, they work fine, but the minute I change the file names in the code, I get an error that looks like Scene 1, Layer 'Actions', Frame 1, Line 9 1120: Access of undefined property Text. Scene 1, Layer 'Actions', Frame 1, Line 13 1120: Access of undefined property Text. Scene 1, Layer 'Actions', Frame 1, Line 3 1120: Access of undefined property HighVale. Scene 1, Layer 'Actions', Frame 1, Line 3 1120: Access of undefined property HighVale. Scene 1, Layer 'Actions', Frame 1, Line 6 1120: Access of undefined property Text. 'HighVale' is the button for the section of the map I'm working with, and 'Text' is (obviously) the image with the info text. I've checked and re-checked that the names are right, but no matter how many times I change them or try to rename them to the ones in the demo file ('mClip' and 'img' respectively) I keep getting 'Access of undefined property'. I don't know what to do. The code I have at the moment of writing this looks like so- import flash.events.MouseEvent; HighVale.addEventListener(Mou

Any suggestions? Thanks! actionscript-3 stage share|improve this question asked Nov 16 '14 at 16:15 jdfinch3 221211 add a comment| 1 Answer 1 active oldest votes up vote 3 down vote accepted The stage is a property of http://stackoverflow.com/questions/26959104/as3-error-1120-access-of-undefined-property-stage a DisplayObject. When a DisplayObject is not on the Stage its stage property is undefined. So, you need to make sure the stage is available when you run QuickKong.connectToKong(stage);. If you do this in the constructor of your document class it should work just fine. Chances are you're trying to do this in some other class that doesn't have a stage property. If the class you're trying to run this in extends a DisplayObject such as MovieClip or Sprite you can listen for when it is added to the stage and then run your QuickKong code. Like this: package { import flash.display.MovieClip; import flash.events.Event; public class Test extends MovieClip { public function Test() { addEventListener(Event.ADDED_TO_STAGE, onAdded); } private function onAdded(e:Event):void{ // now the stage is available QuickKong.connectToKong(stage); } } } Now, if for some reason you are not running your QuickKong code in a class that has access to the stage you should pass a reference to the stage into that class's constructor, like this: var someClass:SomeClass = new SomeClass(stage); Lastly, in your document class you could make a static variable reference the stage. Like this: package { import flash.display.MovieClip; public class Main extends MovieClip { public function Main() { Main.stage = stage; } } } Now, you can just sa

Here I've attached my fla so you can check it out. THanks. exercise6.fla Code: import flash.events.MouseEvent; exercise_button1.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, gotoStep1); function gotoStep1(evt:MouseEvent): void { gotoAndStop("Step1"); } exercise_button2.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, gotoStep2); function gotoStep2(evt:MouseEvent): void { gotoAndStop("Step2"); } Reply With Quote 02-27-2015,02:09 AM #2 fruitbeard View Profile View Forum Posts . Join Date Oct 2011 Posts 1,607 Hi, You need to give your buttons instance names. To do this, selct a button on the stage and give each one an instance name in the properties panel. In this case they need to called exercise_button1 and exercise_button2 respectively. The name you have in the library doesnt work for the stage, thats just a library name, you can however user an AS Linkage name in the library if you were to attach/add using code.
