3, 2014] If you replaced the system or CPU fans, or moved the hardware contents of your HP computer to a new case, you might be getting an "F2 fan error" on boot. Thankfully there seems

to be a solution. After I upgraded my computer to a new case I hp 430 cpu fan started getting the following error during startup/reboot: Error: System Fan Has Failed! Service PC to prevent damage to the system. Press F2
Hp G62 Cpu Fan
to continue. The case I am using has two stock fans on the back, and I replaced the stock CPU heasink and fan with a Cooler Master Hyper heatsink/fan combo. The system originally came with a 3-pin CPU http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/quot-ERROR-CPU-Fan-Has-Failed-PC-will-automatically-power/td-p/724893/page/2 fan that was connected to a slot labeled on the motherboard as "SYS_FAN1," but the new CPU fan that came with the over-sized heat sink has a 4-pin connector that I plugged in into the slot marked as "CPU_FAN". From what I can tell the SYS_FAN1 slot monitors the fan speed, so it had been asking me for the system fan ever since because there's nothing connected to that 3-pin slot. Before continuing, please note that if you haven't http://retrohelix.com/2012/09/how-to-fix-the-f2-system-fan-error-on-some-hp-computers/ changed any parts and you suddenly started getting that message, then make sure the fans are really working. You don't have to change the settings if all you need is to replace a fan, so make sure you check your motherboard's fans configuration to try to isolate the problem. Also, if you did change fans, then you can always reconnect the old fan or a new fan or equal size and speed to the SYSFAN slot. If none of that works, or you just don't want to deal with that message, then continue reading. Pretty much every computer troubleshooting forum or website tells you to go into BIOS and look for "Hardware Monitor" and disable the one that's causing you problems. The problem is that, for most HP computers, that option is hidden. After months of looking and finding the same guides over and over again, I finally found the right answer. I re-wrote it to what I think is easier to understand. There are two ways to go about this: Boot your system and press the F11 key when HP splash screen shows up. The F2 error will probably still show up, so keep pressing F11 repeatedly until it gets passed it and starts loading the list of hardware components. Or, if F11 sends you to system recovery instead of the BIOS

PC will automatically power down up vote 0 down vote favorite All cpu fan of a sudden my HP Pavilion a6357c has started having issues with the fan. Whenever it boots up, the error message in the title appears and the computer powers down. After a few attempts the computer eventually turns on and runs fine, but clearly a problem exists. I've looked around, but all solutions end at the user changing the BIOS settings to a lower fan level, a feature which my BIOS does not support. I run Windows 7 Home cpu fan failed Edition on an otherwise unaltered machine. Is my power supply too weak, or maybe the connection in some wire growing old? Help diagnosing would be appreciated. Edit: Fan is not broken to the best of my knowledge. It always spins up, though it's speed varies which I think is normal. I heard this could happen if there is inadequate power. How would I diagnose that? Oh and it's as clean as I can get it :) fan hp-pavilion cpu-cooler share|improve this question edited Aug 16 at 16:20 Hennes 50.8k775120 asked Oct 9 '12 at 5:03 ExitFailure 41149 Did you check if the fan actually has failed? If it is broken then the obvious solution would be to replace it. If it is not broken then you really want to add that to the original post. –Hennes Oct 9 '12 at 6:47 add a comment| 1 Answer 1 active oldest votes up vote 4 down vote Some fans have a built in speed sensor (tach) that feeds back a signal to the Motherboard. This lets the Motherboard know that the fan is actually rotating and at what speed. This is typically done by having a tiny magnet attached at the hub of the fan blade. As the fan rotates, the magnet comes near a magnetic sensor (hall effect) on the motor housing or mount. This is also done with optical components rather than magnetic. As
