Cpu Fan Error Fan Spinning
pauls3743 October 8, 2012 10:48:58 AM It's possible the fan is either spinning too slow for the motherboard to detect its speed OR the speed sensor on the fan has failed and isn't feeding the motherboard with data. My suggestion:- Re-install the stock cooler as it was. Connect the new cooler to one of the other fan headers on the motherboard. Boot system and enter bios (spam F2 and Del) Power-> HW Monitor Configuration You should get a reading under something like "Chassis Fan Speed" or "Fan-1" or "Opt Fan 1" m 0 l abekl October 8, 2012 11:46:56 AM Sounds like either a failed fan or a proprietary pinout on the MB. m 0 l Related resources CPU Fan error - Forum CPU Fan Error? - Forum Big Problem After Installing CPU Cooler.... - Forum Strange lock up type error - Forum System fan failed error message on new case! - Forum Can't find your answer ? I also downgraded the BIOS firmware by updating to my previous BIOS version, but that didn't help and the CPU fan is stuck, regardless. corsair h100 cpu fan error So, I called ASUS and they said to replace the BIOS chip. I did this and still no luck. Before all this, I could control fan speeds with Silent, Standard, Turbo, or Manual. Now these settings don't work and the fans http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/349698-28-problem-error are running at max speed. Any ideas how I can stop my CPU and chassis fan running at 100%? " My response: This is a good question. I have a number of suggestions and I'll list them in order of preference: Ensure that the Fans are Plugged into the Proper Ports Clear your CMOS (BIOS) Settings Adjust Fan Settings in the BIOS Downgrade the BIOS to another Previous Revision Determine if the Fans are Faulty Determine if the Power Supply is Faulty https://www.infopackets.com/news/9579/how-fix-cpu-fan-stuck-100 Manually Override the Fan Speeds using Software (not recommended) Manually Override the Fan Speeds using Hardware I'll explain more below. Ensure that the Fans are Plugged into the Proper Ports If you accidentally plugged in a chassis fan into the CPU fan header on the motherboard (and vice versa), then the motherboard will not receive the correct fan RPM information and thus may result in fan speeds at 100% load. To correct the problem, ensure that both the CPU and chassis fans are connected to their corresponding ports on the motherboard. Clear your CMOS (BIOS) Settings Sometimes the only sure-fire way to reset your BIOS is to use the "Clear CMOS Jumper" on the motherboard. This is especially true in cases where hardware is malfunctioning, or if you don't have a password to get into the BIOS. To clear the CMOS (and to reset your BIOS), power down the computer, turn off the power supply, open the computer case, then set the Clear CMOS jumper on the motherboard. Usually the Clear CMOS jumper is located near the CMOS battery. Once the jumper is set to clear, turn on the power supply, then press the power button the computer (this will clear the CMOS). The computer should remain off; if it isn't, power off using the power supply. Then, set the Clear CMOS jumper back to regular operation and power on and see if the fans operate normally. Hey anyone who can help, I recently put together my first computer mostly on my own (A tech-savvy friend came over to make sure everything was plugged in right). Every time I boot up the computer, I see the error message "CPU Fan Error", but when I look at the fan, it's most definitely spinning away. Certain programs (mostly large games like Diablo 3 and Dragon Age) will crash the program shortly after starting up, if not crashing the entire computer, and many smaller programs will cpu fan freeze or close on their own, which I have been told may be a sign of overheating. I've tried restarting the computer a number of times, uninstalling the games, plugging the fan into different ports on the motherboard (in case I had it wrong), and even bought a new fan, and I still keep getting this message. I've had this new computer for around a week now and it has been nothing but trouble. All I want is for it to work. Can someone please help me? Reports: cpu fan error · Posted 4 years ago Top hArLtRoN Posts: 766 This post has been reported. Welcome to HTG sadieb, Try downloading "SpeedFan" to see what your computers temperature is at. The way to find it is to click configure once installed. Temps will then be given. Post back what the temp is usually around (ex: if it goes from like 18 to 20 to 19 to 20, just say like 20). Reports: · Posted 4 years ago Top sadieb Posts: 3 This post has been reported. According to the BIOS menu when I booted up, the CPU was sitting at around 34. As of right now, it's around 39-40. I also keep getting error messages saying that "windows explorer is not responding" every few seconds, at which point my desktop, start menu, and toolbar all reset, until finally they decide to just close instead of restarting (All that appears on my desktop is the background. No icons, no toolbar, no start menu) Reports: · Posted 4 years ago Top Xhi Posts: 6298 This post has been reported. Your fan may be running, but not at full speed which it may require. Are you absolutely sure that the CPU fan is plugged into the receptacle on the motherboard that is marked CPU Fan? Double check. The resetting of your desktop is due to Explorer.exe crashing. Not sure if the two events are related. If this is a purchased computer, rather than a build, I would take advantage of any warranties that may apply very soon. Even with a
