Dell Cpu Fan Failure
2350 desktop PC with XP Home SP3. Recently I began getting a POST error stating the CPU fan was not detected, Press F1 to dell cpu fan failure on boot continue or F2 to enter setup. Pressing F1 continues Windows start-up normally, and the PC runs A-OK.I checked the fan for any indication of a problem, and all appears to be normal. The CPU heatsink is clean, the fan runs dell laptop cpu fan normally, and there is not an overheating issue. Given these symptoms, is this likely a motherboard failure with the fan control...and/or is there a workaround? Thanks. While I

still believe it is due to a motherboard faiure in the fan control circuit, I learned there is indeed a BIOS setting that will bypass it. I must have been in the BIOS a dozen times and did not recognize it. Under the POWER tab, there is a setting for ACPI Suspend Type. Changing it from S3 to S1...and....saving the changes as Custom Defaults under the Exit tab resolved the issue. I had tried the S1 setting earlier, but just exited with F10. Apparently that was not enough, and the changes had to be saved as Custom Settings. Thanks againto all who responded to my inquiry. Then try this and see if it makes a difference.Start the system. Press 'F2' to enter System Setup. Highlight 'System Event Log' and press the 'Enter' key. Highlight 'Clear System Event Log' and press the 'Enter' key. Press the 'Esc' key twice to restart.Bev. If it clears, you have a bad fan. If not, then swap the 'bad' fan into a good machine to check and make sure the fan is good and start exploring firmware issues. 0 Serrano OP haultj Sep 3, 2015 at 4:16 UTC With the system off can you spin the fan easily without friction? BIOS error " Alert: CPU fan not detected" Started by cpo312 , Sep 02 2009 11:37 AM Please log in to reply #1 cpo312 Posted 02 September 2009 - 11:37 AM cpo312 Member Member 13 posts Hi all: The CPU fan for my Dell Dimension 2350 desktop computrer stopped working and I got the BIOS error "Alert: CPU fan not detected". So I replaced the CPU fan and the fan works good but now I get this error message when ever I turn my PC on. When I press the power button, I get the Dell logo and I get the Phoenix-Award BIOS screen with the error message "Alert: CPU fan not detected. Press F1 to continue,F2=SETUP,......". When I press F1 the system continues to boot fine and the Pc works fine. My CPU is cooling fine also The error message is very annoying aand I want to remove it or resolve the issue Please help. 0 Advertisements #2 Neil Jones Posted 02 September 2009 - 01:23 PM Neil Jones Member 5k Member 8,476 posts The issue is usually caused because either the fan is spinning too slowly ( if a dynamic fan) or you've connected the fan to what is not the designated CPU fan connector. Most boards have the option of multiple fan takeoffs and while the CPU fan will spin if it's connected to any of these, usually one is specifically assigned for the CPU fan so the boards tend to be wired to it. Alternatively one can have a CPU fan that runs off a 4 pin connector from the power supply but the system will always complain that there isn't one plugged in. 0 Back to Windows XP, 2000, 2003, NT · Next Unread Topic → Similar Topics 0 user(s) are reading this topic 0 members, 0 guests, 0 anonymous users Reply to quoted postsClear Geeks to Go Forum → Operating Systems &ra
