I'm hoping someone can help me as I am http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/577729/cpu-fan-failure-error/ totally at a loss as what to try next. Ok, so my mother bought a HP Slimline S5305Z desktop PC. Had it for several months with no problems. Then ocasionally when she would restart it she would get a"ERROR: CPU Fan Has Failed! PC will automatically power down in a few seconds. Service the PC immediately to prevent damage to the PC." She would restart it and no error. I opened it up to make sure the cpu fan connector was seated properly and it was. Finally she purchased a new desktop and gave me her old one. "Let the fun begin!"....So I brought it home, got everything hooked back up and commenced to using it on a daily basis. Well whenever I would need to restart it due to updates or whatever I would get the same cpu fan error but It went from occasionally to everytime it was restarted. Now whenever I need to restart it I have to blow on the cpu fan to keep it going in order to prevent it from showing the cpu fan error and shutting down. Not really the type of thing I want to have to do each time I restart my PC. To date I have replaced the cpu fan, power supply and motherboard thinking that it might be related to one of those three but with no luck. Still the same issue. As far as I know the

PC will automatically power down up vote 0 cpu fan down vote favorite All of a sudden my HP Pavilion a6357c has started having issues with the fan. Whenever it boots up, the error message in the title appears and the computer powers down. After a few attempts the computer eventually turns on and runs fine, but clearly a problem exists. I've looked around, but all solutions end at the user changing the BIOS settings to a lower fan level, a feature which my BIOS does not fan has failed support. I run Windows 7 Home Edition on an otherwise unaltered machine. Is my power supply too weak, or maybe the connection in some wire growing old? Help diagnosing would be appreciated. Edit: Fan is not broken to the best of my knowledge. It always spins up, though it's speed varies which I think is normal. I heard this could happen if there is inadequate power. How would I diagnose that? Oh and it's as clean as I can get it :) fan hp-pavilion cpu-cooler share|improve this question edited Aug 16 at 16:20 Hennes 50.9k776121 asked Oct 9 '12 at 5:03 ExitFailure 41149 Did you check if the fan actually has failed? If it is broken then the obvious solution would be to replace it. If it is not broken then you really want to add that to the original post. –Hennes Oct 9 '12 at 6:47 add a comment| 1 Answer 1 active oldest votes up vote 4 down vote Some fans have a built in speed sensor (tach) that feeds back a signal to the Motherboard. This lets the Motherboard know that the fan is actually rotating and at what speed. This is typically done by having a tiny magnet attached at the hub of the fan blade. As the fan rotates, the magnet comes near a magnetic sensor (hall effect) on the motor housing or mount
