user shell folder paths back to default, but we need redirection and the msi packages do not like the HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Explorer \ User Shell Folders. Thursday, June 17, 2010 3:05 PM Reply | Quote Answers 11 Sign in to vote Hi Everyone, I'm a little late to the party but I might have some useful info. I just ran into error 1324 the path my pictures contains an invalid character windows 7 this same issue. Windows 7 Pro, Win2003 SBS server domain, My Documents being redirected through a Group Policy Setting. My Documents redirects to \\SERVER\USERS\USERNAME. Error message that My Documents contains an invalid character. Like TS7, if the user logged in was a Domain Admin, this error did not occur. The difference between a Domain Admin and a Domain User? In my case, The Domain Admin has rights to the USERS folder I listed in the My Documents redirection path. A Domain User does not. A Domain User has full rights ONLY to their User Folder (The USERNAME) part. By giving the Domain Users READ access to the USERS folder (only that folder) the error went away. Apparently even though the user had full rights to their user folder, the fact that they didn't have any rights to the USERS folder in the path was causing the issue. (at least in my case). Hope this helps. documents folder was being redirected to an invalid location. I tried right clicking on my error 1324 the path my documents contains an invalid character win 7 documents in the start menu but I was unable to change the path probably because of an old group policy. I error 1324 the path program files contains an invalid character figured I would need to change it in the registry. The registry key for My Documents location is usually HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders But if it has been changed by group policy like in my case it is https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/office/en-US/7ef1e664-7dfa-4ac9-ac48-9ff41717f8f4/error-1324-the-folder-path-my-pictures-contains-an-invalid-character?forum=w7itproinstall located here: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders The key is called personal in both locations. The way I fixed the adobe reader install problem was to change the my documents location back to a local location such as the default location of: C:\Documents and Settings\username\My Documents. I also changed the location of my pictures, my music and my videos for good measure. I then downloaded the full installer from Adobe's website saved it http://getdeclue.com/2012/08/09/adobe-reader-install-failed-error-1324-the-path-my-documents-or-the-volume-is-invalid-please-enter-it-again/ in the local my documents location and the install finished successfully. { 4 comments… read them below or add one } md November 7, 2012 at 5:19 am Great Thank you for the info!
