It worked finea few times (i.e. switching between O/Ss) but then just stopped. My Acer will power up, and I can reach the BIOS, but when I select the HD with Windows 7, it gives me "Error 15" with no further explanation. I have the acer install disks, so I went into BIOs, rebooted from the DVDs, and re-installed Windows 7. But, even hirens boot cd error 15 after the install was complete, when the computer rebooted from the HD it still gives me "Error 15" -- I Think Error 15 is a "file not found" error, it's as if BIOS doesn't is looking for windows in the wrong location (?). -- Maybe the GRUB bootloader I installed is mis-directing or overiding my BIOS somehow? -- My recovery disks do not over a "repair" option, only a re-installation of WIndows. Maybe I can buy/download a Windows 7 recovery console that allows me to check/repair the existing WIndows ? -- I've heard that "flashing" the BIOS might help repair any errors in the BIOS. I downloaded the latest BIOS from ACER to a flash drive, and tried to boot from the flash drive. But this doesn't work. Maybe I'm doing this incorrectly? Any/all suggestions would be appreciated.I'm not very comp savvy but am willing towork withspecific guidance. Upon reboot after install things freeze after Grub 1.5 with a Grub Error 15 message. Is there any easy way to fix this? (I am posting this from my second computer) UPDATE: I managed to boot into both 12.04 and Win7 using BIOS: Selected the disk with the Win7 'C' Partition: resulted in the same error http://askubuntu.com/questions/129689/how-do-i-fix-grub-error-15-on-new-dual-boot-install message Rebooted, tried the disk with the Ubuntu Partitions: *Grub Menu loaded: Managed to boot 12.04, rebooted, used BIOS again: Managed to boot Win 7 So, I have access to my computer again (thru BIOS), but this has been a pretty crappy install experience. Garth I used the the Final release 12.04 Ubuntu install disk, reformatted all Linux partitions, and expected a simple clean install. Other than specifying the Ubuntu Partitions, I did a basic install of 12.04. No way I did do anything to get this crap error failure! I have no idea why my install resulted in a Grub-15 error. grub2 dual-boot share|improve this question edited Oct 21 '12 at 16:05 Jorge Castro 24.1k91386589 asked May 1 '12 at 22:37 Garth 6113 grub2 does not have stage1.5 or error 15, and you should not be using grub legacy on a fresh install of 12.04. I believe wubi installs use GRUB4DOS which is a fork of grub legacy, are you sure you didn't do a wubi install? A while ago, after no updates/changes that I was aware of, my system stopped booting, and gave me: Code: GRUB Loading stage1_5 GRUB Loading, please wait Error 15 The error is in stage 1.5, not stage2, as there is no more info on screen. However, the grub manual tells us that stage 1.5 errors have the same explanations as stage2, and error 15 is "File not found". Presumably, Grub couldn't find stage2. However, after booting with a Grub CD, a quick check shows that the stage2 and all other stuff normally present is there. Furthermore, boot_info_script says all is hunky-dory, Code: Grub Legacy (v0.97) is installed in the MBR of /dev/sda and looks on the same drive in partition #1 for /boot/grub/stage2 and /boot/grub/menu.lst. Grub Legacy (v0.97) is installed in the boot sector of sda1 and looks at sector 17179431 of the same hard drive for the stage2 file. A stage2 file is at this location on /dev/sda. Stage2 looks on partition #1 for /boot/grub/menu.lst. Checked that menu.lst and fstab were ok. Furthermore, using the Grub CD I could boot sda1 by using the chainloader +1 command, and using the configfile command brought up the sda1 menu screen in all its multiple-choice glory. So presumably something is corrupt in the MBR. Easily fixed, I thought, just start up with the Grub CD, and enter Code: root (hd0,0) setup (hd0) Grub happily executed this, reported no errors. Only problem, the system
