I
Error 15 Windows 8
was goofing around with it to see if I could dual boot Android (x86) software. I installed Android O/S (from http://www.android-x86.org/), hirens boot error 15 which required installation of GRUB as a bootloader so I could go back/forth betweeen Windows and Android after the install. It worked finea few times (i.e. switching between O/Ss) but then just stopped. My Acer
Error 15 While Booting
will power up, and I can reach the BIOS, but when I select the HD with Windows 7, it gives me "Error 15" with no further explanation. I have the acer install disks, so I went into BIOs, rebooted from the DVDs, and re-installed Windows 7. But, even after the install was complete, when the computer rebooted from the HD it still gives me "Error 15" -- I Think Error boot usb loi error 15 15 is a "file not found" error, it's as if BIOS doesn't is looking for windows in the wrong location (?). -- Maybe the GRUB bootloader I installed is mis-directing or overiding my BIOS somehow? -- My recovery disks do not over a "repair" option, only a re-installation of WIndows. Maybe I can buy/download a Windows 7 recovery console that allows me to check/repair the existing WIndows ? -- I've heard that "flashing" the BIOS might help repair any errors in the BIOS. I downloaded the latest BIOS from ACER to a flash drive, and tried to boot from the flash drive. But this doesn't work. Maybe I'm doing this incorrectly? Any/all suggestions would be appreciated.I'm not very comp savvy but am willing towork withspecific guidance. DoctorBeaver I was installing Ubuntu from CD and we had a powercut while the installation was in progress. Now, when I try to boot it says "Grub loading 1.5 please wait..." then a couple of seconds later

I get "Error 15" and nothing else happens. I tried to install again from scratch but

although the CD drive is accessed I get exactly the same error. Basically, I'm stuffed. Any ideas? I've got USB memory sticks, an external booting error boot certification verify hard drive, external CD/DVD drive (which I've tried but got the same error) and an SDHC memory card available if any of those could offer a solution. AftershockVibe You could try the steps here after booting from the install CD: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=224351 https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/a64f863a-2725-4bb9-8c86-1f6368adfe5d/windows-7-wont-boot-up-error-15?forum=w7itprogeneral DoctorBeaver AftershockVibe wrote: You could try the steps here after booting from the install CD: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=224351 It won't boot from the install disk. With or without the disk I get error 15. malcolmpreen I had a similar sounding problem a while back.... can't remember the exact error... but I know I couldn't boot from the hard disk, or the ubuntu install media. I was able to switch into debug mode (from grub I think.... but I'm not 100% sure) and that http://www.frihost.com/forums/vt-105437.html was suggesting that I had a problem which needed fscking.... Fine I thought.... if only I could boot somehow.... Anyway.... long story short.... I happened to have a Fedora 10 installation DVD.... I was able to boot that OK.... enter rescue mode.... and fsck the ubuntu disk.... following that... everything was good. For the record, my Ubuntu was 8.04 - if I remember I tried booting from 8.04 and 8.10 with no luck. Best of luck... in theory... assuming you have a way to get it.... any other distribution installation MIGHT be worth a go.... Malcolm DoctorBeaver Malcolm - thanks for that. I'll give it a try. Anything is worth a try because the PC is totally useless at the moment. AftershockVibe Sorry DoctorBeaver, I thought Quote: I tried to install again from scratch but although the CD drive is accessed I get exactly the same error. meant that it failed after the install. Normally, I'd suggest SuperGrubDisk: http://www.supergrubdisk.org/ but their latest news post (10th April) doesn't fill me with confidence. Seems the new kernel setup isn't playing nice with Grub. There's a USB version though, should be easy enough to test and might be worth a go. DoctorBeaver AftershockVibe - I'll try the USB but I'm not hopeful. Otherwise I think the only way I'm going to solve this problem will be to remove the hard drive, put it in another PC as an extra hard drive, wipe it comp

Windows 7: Grub boot error 15, file not found Page 1 of 2 1 2 > 23 Jul 2012 #1 orion64 Windows 7 Ultimate x64 2 posts Grub boot error 15, file not found I just recently returned from a trip out of town and found when I tried to boot my computer I had a Grub boot error 15, file not found. I've never heard of grub4dos before I began error 15 trying to figure out what was wrong with my computer and found that it is used for dual booting. I run windows 7 ultimate x64 and have never dual booted my machine. While my laptop itself is not password protected, I do require a password to get into windows. My question is can someone get around the required password to install grub4dos, install linux, then copy my hard-drive, leaving it useless when they're done? If not, is there some other way, a virus or trojan, that error 15 boot could cause windows to fail and revert to grub? I did remove my hard-drive, put it into an external case and try to look at it on another computer. In the disk manager it shows that it's healthy, has 465gb avail and the format is RAW. I really hope that someone out there can tell me how to recover my data and that the problem is something other than some individual hacking my computer. Thanks. Windows doesn't use Grub, so there's no way it just showed up unless someone installed it. Installing a Linux distro doesn't require your Windows password - they just boot from a CD and install the distro, which includes the Grub bootloader. They can also use a Linux LiveCD to access the entire Windows partition and get pretty much whatever they want from it. Do you have your Windows 7 installation DVD?
