I have install puppy 528 to HDD. Whenever I click shutdown/power-off computer it hangs and then I have to hold the power button down. When http://savannah.gnu.org/bugs/?29385 I start the laptop it wont start until I type xwin. I have looked through the beginners help and the rest of the forum and found something that might help: Puppy 4.3 APM won't power off [solved] The advice looks good but assumes some beginners knowledge. How do I get to point where I can alter the APM settings? Can you point me http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=79150&sid=a4b7ad51a469a360d1ece3bce61767f2 towards some tutorial that takes you through those steps from the beginning? The correct syntax for the options for drivers can be obtained with Code: modinfo apm command . I am not sure if your lap supports acpi or apm . To get the supported modes : Code: dmidecode -t0 |grep -E 'APM
2012-12-23 Posts: 4 About loading kernel modules Dear Arch Community,I have some issues loading a kernel module. Namely tp_smapi. I myself have never loaded kernel modules before, so I guess I just missed something basic. Here https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=156102 is what I did:I followed the wiki to install it:$ sudo pacman -S tp_smapi and restarted my computer. Yet, the promissed directory to occur did not do so:$ ls /sys/devices/platform/smapi ls: cannot access /sys/devices/platform/smapi: http://knoppix.net/forum/threads/10782-modprobe-FATAL-error-loading-apm No such file or directory I noticed that some files mentioned by other users don't exist on my system, e.g./etc/modules-load.d/tp_smapi.conf /etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf Also, systemd reports the following:$ systemctl list-units UNIT LOAD ACTIVE SUB DESCRIPTION error inserting (...) systemd-modules-load.service loaded failed failed Load Kernel Modules (...)So, what is it that I might not have taken care of?Thank you,Tetrapilot Offline #2 2013-01-13 17:08:47 teateawhy Member From: GER Registered: 2012-03-05 Posts: 1,060 Website Re: About loading kernel modules You can always try to load a module on your own with modprobe -a The command gives you interesting output if it fails. Regarding tp_smapi you should check error inserting apm wether tp_smapi is supported on your thinkpad or not in this list Editing files in /etc is usually not necessary, because the module should be autoloaded. I am unsure as to what to do as in the past the 3.4 from 5/10 just worked when booting knoppix26. Any and all help appreciated Toxic_d Reply With Quote 06-08-2004,03:22 AM #2 skyfaller View Profile View Forum Posts Private Message Visit Homepage Junior Member Join Date Jan 2004 Posts 3 I too get this error, when using kernel 2.6. Generally the Compaq Presario X1000 laptop gets all the way through booting into KDE, everything looks beautiful, when this false battery warning pops up (saying I have 3 minutes of battery when it's actually mostly charged), and it crashes, the X server dies, leaving me with this error: error inserting apm (/lib/modules/2.6.6/kernel/arch/i386/kernel/apm.ko) : no such device The problem does not arise if the laptop is plugged in. If I use kernel 2.4, I don't even get that far, the Xserver won't start, probably for unrelated reasons.
