by the fglrx-legacy driver release you provide. I'm using Centos 6.4. I've followed the instructions on this page http://elrepo.org/tiki/kmod-fglrx-legacy, [^] and I downgraded my xserver successfully. Yet the fglrx kernel module doesn't load. whenever I issue "sudo modprobe fglrx" command I get this output; "FATAL: Error inserting fglrx (/lib/modules/3.2.0-29-generic/updates/dkms/fglrx.ko): No such device". I followed the instructions on these pages; https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/AMD_Catalyst, [^] error inserting fglrx cannot allocate memory https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Sysctl, [^] to enforce all the conditions needed by the kernel module to load. Additional Information This is the xorg.conf file I used, I created it using "aticonfig --initial" on an older linux distro that isn't supported anymore: Section "ServerLayout" Identifier "aticonfig Layout" Screen 0 "aticonfig-Screen[0]-0" 0 0 EndSection Section "Module" EndSection Section "Monitor" Identifier "aticonfig-Monitor[0]-0" Option "VendorName" "ATI Proprietary Driver" Option "ModelName" "Generic Autodetecting Monitor" Option "DPMS" "true" EndSection Section "Device" Identifier "Radeon 9550" Driver "fglrx" Option "UseFastTLS" "1" BusID "PCI:1:0:0" EndSection Section "Screen" Identifier "aticonfig-Screen[0]-0" Device "aticonfig-Device[0]-0" Monitor "aticonfig-Monitor[0]-0" DefaultDepth 24 SubSection "Display" Viewport 0 0 Depth 24 EndSubSection EndSection And this is the conf file to load fglrx and blacklist radeon: blacklist radeon alias fglrx fglrx alias radeon off alias lbm-radeon off And finally this is the Xorg.0.log: [ 34.142] X.Org X Server 1.10.6 Release Date: 2012-02-10 [ 34.143] X Protocol Version 11, Revision 0 [ 34.143] Build Operating System: c6b7 2.6.32-220.el6.x86_64 [ 34.143] Current Operating System: Linux livecd.centos 2.6.32-358.el6.x86_64 #1 SMP Fri Feb 22 00:31:26 UTC 2013 x86_64 [ 34.143] Kernel command line: nomodeset initrd=initrd0.img root=live:UUID=65EA-1E6C rootfstyp

Also affects distribution/package Nominate for series Bug Description Following the AMD decision to change to a new driver support model for Radeon™ HD 4000, HD 3000 and HD 2000 series cards for the legacy 12.6 driver as per http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/linux/legacy/Pages/legacy-radeon_linux.aspx , fglrx-installer installs non-working drivers for users of the cards: AMD Radeon HD 4000 Series AMD Radeon HD 3000 Series AMD Radeon HD 2000 Series AMD Radeon HD Series AGP AMD Mobility Radeon HD 4000 Series AMD Mobility Radeon HD 3000 Series AMD Mobility Radeon HD 2000 Series I suggest the addition of an fglrx-legacy package to install the AMD legacy drivers for users with older cards or patch the current code base for use with these cards. One of the outstanding issues for addressing this bug is AMD currently does not plan to support XServer 1.13 (for Ubuntu the package is xserver-xorg-core) for the legacy 12.6 driver, which Quantal uses: apt-cache policy xserver-xorg-core xserver-xorg-core: Installed: 2:1.13.0-0ubuntu6 Candidate: 2:1.13.0-0ubuntu6 Version table: *** 2:1.13.0-0ubuntu6 0 500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ quantal/main i386 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status Output for fglrx 9.00 [1]: # lspci|grep VGA 01:05.0 VGA compatible controller: Advan
