What is the output of dkms status ? comment:3 Changed 7 years ago by mantovam Hi frank. I fix the problem. When I install the package kernel-smp-devel, and re-run /etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup Must be the same version of the kernel. I guess that the error in dkms package, isn't important, because the virtualbox must install without this.I just instaled, because I didn't know the cause of the errors (Invalid module format). My suggetion to developer group, is make a pre-requirement when run the install of Virtual Box. Like: Check supported kernell Check if the version of gcc was the same that the kernel was buid. Check if there is packages kernel-devel. Check if the /usr/src/kernel/

Compilation of module is successful. I think it is because module of virtualbox is only for older kernels(2.6.23.14-107.fc8, 2.6.23.15-137.fc8). If I use /sbin/modprobe vboxdrv I will get this error: FATAL: Error inserting vboxdrv /lib/modules/2.6.24.3-34.fc8/misc/vboxdrv.ko): Invalid module format Attachments dmesg (28.3 KB) - added by klop 9 years ago. vbox-install.log (18.2 https://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/5937 KB) - added by klop 9 years ago. In dmesg I get: vboxdrv: version magic '2.6.23.12-52.fc7 SMP mod_unload 686 4KSTACKS ' should be '2.6.23.12-52.fc7 SMP mod_unload 586 4KSTACKS ' The default kernel config has: CONFIG_SMP=yes So this might be the issue, the kernel should be compile with SMP on a single CPU machine. I will try a non-SMP kernel and let you know comment:5 in reply to: ↑ 4 Changed 8 years ago by michael Status changed from new to closed Resolution set to invalid Replying to athomasset: In dmesg I get: vboxdrv: version magic '2.6.23.12-52.fc7 SMP mod_unload 686 4KSTACKS ' should be '2.6.23.12-52.fc7 SMP mod_unload 586 4KSTACKS ' Note the fact that one line contains "686" and the other "586". Fedora has kernels and headers for both 686 (Pentium Pro and later) and 586 (Pentium) processors. A 686 kernel need

For https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1962172 some reason NAT network doesn't work. So I tried host interface networking. For that I need to insert module vboxnetflt. When I try to insert the module it says : Invalid module format. Same thing happens when I try to insert error inserting vboxnetadp. However vboxdrv works fine.I have tried both ose & binary package from the AUR. Same thing happens with both versions. I have tried recompiling the modules again & again but it doesn't work. It's probably not an update kernel issue because I had this issue before the kernel update too. Here's invalid module format what happens :[root@Daedalus noel]# /etc/rc.d/vboxdrv setup :: Removing old VirtualBox netadp kernel module [DONE] :: Removing old VirtualBox netflt kernel module [DONE] :: Removing old VirtualBox kernel module [DONE] :: Recompiling VirtualBox kernel modules [DONE] [root@Daedalus noel]# modprobe vboxdrv [root@Daedalus noel]# modprobe vboxnetflt FATAL: Error inserting vboxnetflt (/lib/modules/2.6.34-ARCH/misc/vboxnetflt.ko): Invalid module format [root@Daedalus noel]# modprobe vboxnetadp FATAL: Error inserting vboxnetadp (/lib/modules/2.6.34-ARCH/misc/vboxnetadp.ko): Invalid module formatkernel : kernel26 2.6.34.3-1virtualbox version : virtualbox-ose 3.2.8-1I'm on 32 bit arch if that helps. First of all, I am using Ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric Ocelot. I upgraded from Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal, which was the first install. Also, Linux version is 2.6.38-11-generic and it seems it was compiled with gcc 4.5.2. (I am just trying to provide as much information as possible here ) When I first tried installing virtualbox today, it failed because it could not find the kernel headers. It was a bit of a hassle to install them, because I had to grab them from a lucid package. Trying to install vbox again, these are parts of the install log that might be of interest: [...] virtualbox (4.1.2-dfsg-1ubuntu1) wird eingerichtet ... * Stopping VirtualBox kernel modules [ OK ] * Starting VirtualBox kernel modules * No suitable module for running kernel found [fail] [...] DKMS: install Completed. * Stopping VirtualBox kernel modules [ OK ] * Starting VirtualBox kernel modules * modprobe vboxdrv failed. Please use 'dmesg' to find out why [fail] I did as I was told and ran "dmesg | grep vboxdrv". This is the output: [ 22.869308] vboxdrv: Found 4 processor cores. [ 22.869561] vboxdrv: fAsync=0 offMin=0x498 offMax=0x14b8 [ 22.869626] vboxdrv: TSC mode is 'synchronous', kernel timer mode is 'normal
