During creation/importing of the ssl certificate into exchange 2010, exchange first asks, if a exchange 2010 pop3 wildcard certificate is used and then encounters an error -> due to the certificate is a wildcard certificate and not a certificate especially generated for the FQDN, SSL for POP and IMAP can not be provided. couldn't find any workaround or solution for this on google, so I hope, maybe some one here has an answer or solution for me! :) the exchange 2010 is running on a windows server 2008 R2 enterprise. thanks in advance and best regards, sise imap exchange-2010 wildcard pop3 share|improve this question asked Feb 4 '10 at 15:09 Sise 108229 add a comment| 4 Answers 4 active oldest votes up vote 1 down vote accepted Unfortunately, your best option is to get a UC cert, which means ditching the wildcard and purchasing a new one entirely. See my answer HERE for a similar question. share|improve this answer answered Feb 4 '10 at 15:20 DanBig 10.6k12048 1 It appears that it is possible to use a wildcard cert with the POP3/IMAP4 services despite the warnings. joshperry's reference to KB948896 led me to the answer. Even though I was getting a warning when attempting to assign the certificate to POP3/IMAP4, it will still use the wildcard certificate that matches the FQDN defined for the service. So set the FQDN to mail.example.com and it will use the cert with subject *.example.com. &ndash
certificate, see Exchange 2010 CSR Creation. How to install your SSL certificate in Exchange 2010 Exchange 2010 Installation Tutorial Video Installing with the Exchange Management Console Download and open the ZIP file containing your certificate. Your certificate file will be named your_domain_name.cer. Copy the your_domain_name.cer file to your Exchange server. Start the Exchange Management Console by going to Start > Programs > Microsoft Exchange 2010 > Exchange Management Console. Click the link to "Manage Databases", and then go to "Server configuration". Select your certificate from the menu in the center of the screen (listed by its Friendly Name), and then click the link in the Actions menu to "Complete Pending Request". Browse to your certificate file, then click Open > Complete. Frequently Exchange 2010 will show an error message stating that "The source data is corrupted or not properly Base64 encoded." Ignore that error. Hit F5 to refresh the certificate and verify that it now says "False" under "Self Signed". If it still shows "True", you may have selected the wrong certificate or you may have generated the request on a different server. To fix this, you can create a new CSR on this Exchange server and reissue the certificate. Now, to enable your certificate for use, go back to the Exchange Management Console and click the link to "Assign Services to Certificate." Select your server from the list provided, then click Next. Select the services for which you would like to enable your new certificate, click Next > Assign > Finish. Your certificate should now be Installed and Enabled for use with Exchange. Exporting to your ISA Server (VERY IMPORTANT) When exporting your certificate, make sure to include all certificates in the certification chain, when prompted. Otherwise, your certificate will not work properly. If you are currently using an ISA (Internet Security and Acceleration) server in front of your Exchange 2010 server, or need to export your SSL certificate to any other Microsoft server type, see our Exchange export instructions for a step-by-step walkthrough.
