Operations which require contacting a FSMO operation master will fail until this condition is corrected. FSMO Role: CN=Schema,CN=Configuration,DC=exchangeserverpro,DC=net The root cause is a replication issue with the domain controllers in the environment. In my experience this is usually due to a domain controller being offline, either due to a fault or due to it being decommissioned incorrectly. After you have resolved any domain controller replication issues Exchange setup should be able to apply the schema updates without error. During my exchange 2010 sp2 installation instructions Exchange 2013 Lab Installation I've encountered the following error during schema preparation. There exchange 2010 sp2 issues was an error while running ‘ldifde.exe’ to import the schema file ‘C:WindowsTempExchangeSetupSetupDataPostExchange2003_schema0.ldf’. The error code is: 8224. message indicates that the import of schema changes have been failed and when you check your Schema Master FSMO role domain controller in your forest you'll notice the following event log in http://exchangeserverpro.com/error-code-8224-running-ldifde-exe-import-schema-file/ Directory Services logs. From this warning message we can notice that the root cause is a replication issue in your Directory services infrastructure. In my experience this is due to either a domain controller in the environment is offline or decommissioned incorrectly causing replication issues. To check the status of replication in your Active Directory infrastructure you can either use RepAdmin or Active Directory Replication http://mstechtalk.com/ldifde-exe-failed-to-import-schema-file-error-code-8224/ Services Tool. Once you resolved replication issues in your Active Directory infrsatructure you will be able to extend AD Schema and Exchange setup will not have any issues during the schema extension. In my lab, one of the child domain controller went offline and i forgot to check that. Once the child domain controller was up and running and I've a success message of replication in my lab i was able to extend the Schema during Exchange 2013 SP1 installation. from 2003. I have two DC's running Windows Server 2003 Sp2, one of which is the Exchange 2003 server. I have just brought online a windows 2008R2 member server, which I am attempting to install exchange 2010 on. I get the following error message during installation. Organization Preparation Failed Error: The following error was generated when "$error.Clear(); install-ExchangeSchema -LdapFileName ($roleInstallPath + "Setup\Data\"+$RoleSchemaPrefix + "schema1.ldf")" was run: "There was an error while running 'ldifde.exe' to import the schema file 'C:\Windows\Temp\ExchangeSetup\Setup\Data\PostExchange2003_schema1.ldf'. The error code is: 8224. More details can be found in the error file: 'C:\Users\administrator.CFN\AppData\Local\Temp\2\ldif.err'". There was an error while running 'ldifde.exe' to import the schema file 'C:\Windows\Temp\ExchangeSetup\Setup\Data\PostExchange2003_schema1.ldf'. The error code is: 8224. I can resolve the DC without issue. I have done dcdiag and netdiag and passes all tests. I have even written a hosts file, all this to no avail. Any help would be appreciated.
