A bad drive could stall windows and prevent it from fully loading. Hopefully the 3rd drive is not the one with your OS on it. Apr 18, 2012 #2 Sybren TS Rookie Topic Starter Well I thinks it's the only disk I have, I've disconnected it reconnected it and my OS is on it. Should i reinstall windows? If it does, replace the CD drive Apr 19, 2012 #4 (You must log in or sign up to reply here.) "3rd master hard disk error" followed by a "WAIT..." screen that prevents the BIOS setup from ever loading. 2. I can successfully enter BIOS setup, but it does not detect the hard drive at all. -AMD Phenom II x4 945 Deneb 3.0GHz -ASUS M4A79XTD EVO -(2 X 2GB) G.SKILL DDR3 1333 -WD 160GB 7200 RPM 3.5" Internal SATA Hard hard disk error Drive -ASUS CD/DVD Burner -ASUS Radeon HD 4850 -SeaSonic X650 Gold PSU -Computer does not have any OS installed yet. -I tried switching out the SATA cable and had the same results as above. I also switched the SATA cable from SATA 1 to SATA 3 on the motherboard- error went from "3rd master" to "4th master". Is my hard drive a loss? Could it be something else? Thanks in advance for helping out a beginner. More about : hard drive failure 1haplo August 3, 2010 4:45:53 PM Yes, It sounds like a bad drive. It does happen. Start from the fact that older designs had one or two IDE ports, and each of them could have a Master and a Slave device. Now add on new SATA ports that can ONLY have ONE device per port. So the habit became that the IDE devices were called the Primary IDE po

Just put together a new PC, and it boots up fine in POST until it gives me this error. I tried pressing F1 to continue and it just goes to a wait screen that never seems to move on (I waited about 10 minutes and it was still on WAIT...). I only have one HDD hooked up, so I'm not really sure what to do with this lol. Have restarted a couple times, and reseated the SATA and power connections for the HDD, but same problem. I also only have 2 SATA devices hooked up at all, and like I said only one is an HDD, so I'm not sure why there is an error with a third hard-disk at all. Any suggestions on possible fixes, preferably outside of getting a new HDD?
