Hard Drive Error Discussion in 'Hardware' started by Macgumerait, Jan 4, 2011. Macgumerait Private E-2 Hello, First post, so be kind. I got a problem with my SATA http://forums.majorgeeks.com/index.php?threads/internal-hard-drive-error.230388/ hard drive. Ive had my AMD ATHLON 320gb HD PC for about 12 months, and over the last few weeks, it has began springing error messages during its automatic diagnostics in BIOS. My OS is Vista, but I dont have the backup cd for it. It never came with the package. I done all the standard software checks, SPYBOT, AVAST, SCANDISK, DEFRAG, etc, but they didnt make an hard disk impact, and the error messages continued, but with more frequency. I even lately created an System Recovery CD to try and fix the boot on the machine, but when I ran it via DOS, it couldnt detect the hard drive. What is odd is that the hard drive is detected after several efforts of booting and rebooting. Is there anything I can do to correct this fault? Was this PC a bought off the shelf one like Dell, HP, ACER etc if so what make and model? plus how old is it? What are the actual error messages in full please? What you could try is to make sure the HDD SATA cable is firmly pushed in, so unplug it nad plug it back in if a desktop, if a laptop then unscrew the cover for the HDD bay and just slide the drive back then push forward to connect it again (do look for any retaining screws just in case) NOTE, have the PCs switched off when doing this or have a friend or someone whos confident in working inside PCs do this for you if you are not.
