This is not a problem for us. One person cannot access it because of a, "Could Not Lock File" error. The rest of us do could not lock file. 3050 not have this problem. Can anyone tell me how to correct this? Is the problem in the person's security or configuration of Access or in the database? Thanks. dfriend846, Sep 13, 2005 #1 Sponsor dfriend846 Thread Starter Joined: Aug 11, 2005 Messages: 199 Here's an answer to the above problem: The users who had problems opening Access had read only rights for

the network folder containing the database. If they were the first (only?) user then there was no problem but if they logged on as a multiple user the program could not create a lock file since they did not have write priveleges. When changed to allow write priveleges the problem went away. dfriend846, Oct 2, 2005 #2 Adeyan Joined: Jan 4, 2007 Messages: 9 Thanks, exactly what i was looking for Adeyan, Jan 4, 2007 #3 glisando Joined: Jun 1, 2007 Messages: 15 I am having the same problem in my workplace too. I just took over the admistration of the database recently. There is a user who always gets the 'could not lock file' error Is giving them 'write' privellages the only way to solve this problem? What if that particular user is not supposed to do any editing of the data, and I end up giving him 'WRITE' privellages? Could it be something to do with the registry settings of the user's notebook/PC? I managed to get some info from this site : http://support.microsoft.com/kb/305995 Could anyone confirm that the method suggested by the above mentioned link will

.ldb file should automatically get created when user connects to the database and automatically get deleted when user stops using the database. The way to fix this problem is to delete the .ldb file. The .ldb file https://www.tutcity.com/access/how-to-solve-the-could-not-lock-file-error.16742.html will be in the same folder as the database itself. If the File in Use error is received when trying to delete the .ldb file. Sponsored Links: Read full post... I have 3 admins who lock file have no problem accessing the database and 2 users who can access the db but intermittently. Users can access the db with no errors when the other 3 admins are not running the file. But once the admins are running the db, the 2 users cannot access even from the FE. The error message that comes out is usually error 3045 and couldn't lock file. I have done the following: 1. Set the folder permissions of the users to could not lock full control to allow read, execute, delete everything. 2. Had the last owner/pc of the BE lock file (.laccdb) to delete the lock file (but was unsuccessful because the lock file just couldn't be deleted, I believe this is where the problem is). access error 3050 could not lock file I am the admin. Thanks and Multiple users : Does splitting the db into FE and BE solve the data corruption problem Does splitting the db into FE and BE solve the data corruption problem if multiple users were to try to open and modify a DB at the same time? If I distribute the FE to users on their local computers and then use a VPN service to enable access to the BE on a server, does this automatically solve this problem? I'm not clear if the BE has built in intelligence to lock out the file when it's in use, when another user tries to access it and do some changes. File shari

Users should not be opening the database for exclusive use which is what the message sound like to me. I'm just trying to figure out what's causing this? A setting on their local PC, something with the link? I'm more on the non-tech side but trying to help the user out on this. None of the other dozen plus users have a problem. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Regardless, your problem sounds like Possibility 1 or 2 above (if it's 1 specific user and no other users have problems and that user gets the error every time.) If it happens randomly with this user (and other users), it could then be another specific user which is locking the mdb when they open it. I had it once where when 1 specific user got into the mdb, they locked it for other users. It was because this specific user didn't have write permissions to the folder (they only had read permissions.) Last edited by pkstormy; 12-03-08 at 18:47.
